Sometimes I think about how much harm religion has done to scientific or just moral progress for the human species. What heights could we have reached if not for the proliferation of dogma? What would our civilization look like if we encouraged free thought and acknowledge our ignorance of the universe? Some day I hope we can learn from our past and not let our beliefs control us so.

Isaac Barrow, the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge, resigned his chair in favor of his most talented pupil, Isaac Newton, and after that devoted himself to religion. So in that case Christianity can reasonably claim to have advanced the progress of science.

Our lives are too finite to effectively evaluate religion's effects overall. we see things on too limited a scope time-wise. this is a thing that will take many thousands upon thousands of years to equalize and homogenize.

Just as religion has impeded civilization it affects individuals. Agnostics and atheists who escape from religious families may feel alienated and suffer culture shock.

Yes, they have been skewing the advancement, especially in medical science. Clever name BTW, and welcome!

I agree. The only reason I am against religion now is because it does not support logical thinkers.
