Hi all,
I'm new to this and already excited to see this is going well ??
I have a question: do you have freedom to practice atheism or you have to hide it from family/ friends?

You don't practice atheism.

I meant to say you practice freedom in not believing in religious and Gods...

It's not really a thing people take issue with in my country — I'm extremely fortunate. If anything, Christians in Britain are more inclined to keep their beliefs to themselves lest they attract suspicion and gentle disdain.

Splendid... ?

Good for you.
I'm a former muslim from the Middle-East ... it is very oppressing

@Dreamer777 That is one very difficult religion to leave — not least for what the Quran says about apostasy. ? It also explicitly forbids people from associating with non-believers, doesn't it? There's a Middle-Eastern Muslim guy, I chat with at work — lovely, friendly fellow — but of all the people I know, he's the one whom I've never openly told I'm an atheist, as I worry that he'd feel obliged to shun me if he knew.... Maybe I should ask him?

@DaveMania it is difficult. That's why I've been keeping it a secret as the law states that if exposed, I should be asked to return to the religion and if not then I should be condemned to death.
Quran in some versets forbids association with jews or Christians and non believers in general. That's why most of muslims shun anybody who's not muslim. I'd recommend that you keep things friendly and professional as they are cause your nice guy is trying to showcase himself as a nice model should you be encouraged to become a muslim otherwise the maximum thing he could do is just argue with you all the time trying to proof that he's right! or just be neutral when dealing with you.

Hi welcome to the community. I have been a non-believer since my teens.

I'm still in the closet. 🙂

How do you feel about it?

Compared to all the other things my family and friends had to accept about me, Atheism is not even worth a mention. The fact that 90% of them are also, really makes it a non issue.

I keep my atheism to myself. Welcome to the community.

Thanks for your kind words. Would you tell me why do you have to keep it to yourself?

@Dreamer777 Family would disown me and I'd lose friends.

@SpikeTalon I'm in the same boat

@SpikeTalon I hear you.. me too ?

I think my siblings know, I don't care if anyone else does. All they have to do is look at my Facebook profile.

First and foremost, welcome! However, one does not practice athiesim. It is simply not accepting a personal god. I usually just bow my head when asked to pray. Easier than to make a scene. That's what I like about this forum. You can be YOU! I myself am not an athiest (tho was). I am spiritual, and believe there is is something out there.

Thanks for welcoming me. I agree that it feels great that there's somewhere to feel that nobody can judge me!
I do the same: it's easier to hide it than to listen to all the criticism!

@Dreamer777 We don't judge around here. We speak our minds, and unless it's a troll, or something bad, we have good conversations!

@TheGreatShadow Of course ??

Pretty much everyone knows I am a heathen and if a stranger makes the mistake and ask me if I am religious they quickly figure it out because I don't hold back.
