I think is was Elvis Presley's Hound Dog... I was either in 7th or 8th grade. Blue Suede Shoes, Don't Be Cruel were also popular back then... loved Elvis when he was starting out, later in high school he was old hat... 25/30 years later I liked his music again.

I was the youngest of 6, born in 63, so I had an endless supply of 45s that I would play again and again. My favorite was the Beatles, Hello, Goodbye song. And Kind of a Drag, by The Buckinghams.

Don Mcclean American Pie ~ the song was split in half the first half of the song was side a ( or as i called it the good side) then when the beat changed you flipped it over. i couldn't imagine doing such a thing now. but this was in the time of 8 tracks .....

I can't recall actually buying any. My brother did. I remember playing them. But I first bought Columbia House albums, 13 for a penny. Lots of greatest hits collections, among them the Carpenters, Captain & Tennille, Barry Manillow, Linda Ronstadt. ...and at least one cool one, Eagles. When I started buying singles, I bought them on cassettes. Still have most, though I haven't even tried to play them in years (I am now 50). I did start buying LPs by the time I was 17, just not 45s.

I already had a couple albums but maybe Rolling Stones, funny I remember clearly the B side "you can't always get what you want" A side was "Ruby Tuesday" or most likely "Honky Tonk Woman". Not a stones fan, also running for the honor Begees "To love somebody" and Jefferson Airplane "Somebody to love". I was starting to get horny I guess.
