TGIF! (as in thank goodness it's Friday).
Let's play a game: Predicting the future

In about 15-20 years in the future most (if not all) cars of the road will be class 5 , completely autonomous and hands free. Cars will virtually almost eliminate accidents. Commuting will no longer require holding the wheel and drive.

What kind of socio-economical impact will this create? (keep to one subject per comment. 4-6 sentences)

For example, Personal car insurance will become obsolete since cars would no longer be causing accidents but automakers will be to blame is a software makes a glitch.

Another business that will be affected are roadside motels. Going to Florida will no longer require a stay over because it will be possible to sleep in the car.

A business that will be affected will be car body shops. Les accidents less damages to repair.

I don't believe it will work to that extent. I agree that those in power will never let it happen, insurance is to big of an industry. Plus the cost of repairs and diagnostics will remain outrageous and many will not be able to afford it. I don't believe it will be made affordable for the average consumer in the next 20 years...

As long as some people (like me) love classic cars, and driving, and cruise ins, I think there will still be old rules/laws in place for them.

Will routine traffic stops become a thing of the past - or will local police still find ways to collect revenue from random drivers/car occupants?

@McVinegar
Give them time to get bored. When they have too much time on their hands, they get creative.

thanks for participating

Michigan State Police will pull you over for anything, real or imagined, in search of revenue. Here in Georgia we don't have that problem, thank goodness.

Who or what controls the car's direction and speed is of secondary importance. What really matters is its source of energy for the motive force. If it's fossil fuels, then it's game-over for the climate. Some like it hot, but what we are facing surpasses all normal expectations. We are talking mass extinction here.
