What Cover Song is Better Than The Original?
Elvis Costello And The Attractions version of Nick Lowe's, What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love And Understanding?
David Wilcox's version of John Waite's, Missing You (Not Missing You).
Cake's version of Gloria Gaynor's, I Will Survive.
Gary Jule's version of Tears For Fears, Mad World.
Metallica's version of Thin Lizzy's, Whiskey In The Jar
Jeff Buckley's version of Leonard Cohen's, Halleluja.
Johnny Cash's version of Nine Inch Nail's, Hurt.
Bjork's version of Betty Hutton's, It's Oh So Quiet.
Talking Heads version of Al Green's, Take Me To The River.
The Clash's version of The Bobby Fuller Four's, I Fought The Law.
Disturbed cover of Simon & Garfunkel's "The Sound of Silence"
I definitely agree with that. I was raised with Simon and Garfunkel, I can't stand that sh*t.
I prefer the original by a good margin, but it is the best cover of that song I've ever heard, that I agree. The one part that annoys me is how the sound of the drop of water in the well of silence near the end is completely missing in Disturbed's version - in the original, it sounds like the words are falling and then hit the bottom of the well when the singer says "...and echoed". It's a part that I loved in the original.
Almost any song that Joe Cocker or Ray Charles covered.
Re: Joe Cocker.
As much as I liked The Beatles' original,Cocker's cover of "A Little Help..." is superlative.
The other cover that immediately springs to mind is The Byrds' one of Dylan's "It's All Over Now,Baby Blue". I really do like Bob Dylan and have repeatedly defended his technically-poor singing voice by concentrating on the feeling he sings with; the humour,the pathos,the bitterness,the sarcasm...very rarely can anyone sing a Dylan song better than Dylan. But...
...The Byrd's take this song and push emotion right through it and if those yearning,sun-warmed harmonies alone don't bring you to some kind of godless epiphany,I'll buy you an Ed Sheeran album instead and send you on your way...
I have very,very strong opinions about music. Does that come across,or..?
@EdMalarkey Since it is my profession l do too. ☺
@Sticks48
Two of my brothers are drummers! Another was a bassist. I sing.
Many of my best friends are musicians and I owe them a great deal.
@EdMalarkey l always appreciate anyone who has a passion for music. My brother is a singer/songwriter. He was with Willie Nelson publishing in the 70's and 80's. I owe him my career. Playing with family is such a great thing to experience.
Danzig’s version of Trouble is better than Elvis’ version, too.
Yep.
Rob Zombie's cover of Grand Funk Railroad's "We're an American Band."
Loved 3 Dog Night-saw them live once.
Nothing Compares 2 U by Sinead O'Connor (vs Prince)
Girls just want to have fun by Cyndi Lauper (vs Robert Hazard)
I Love Rock 'n Roll by Joan Jett (vs. The Arrows)
I won't even touch the various covers of Hallelujah as I like Buckley, Lang, Cohen.
I suspect many like Houston's I Will Always Love You (inspired by Ronstadt's cover) but I find Parton's orginal to be more heartfelt.
I totally agree with you on the "nothing compares 2 you" song. Yes I will give credit to Prince for writing that song, as well as many other songs as well, but I think that Sinead O'Connor version was much better.
Posted this earlier but must have been deleted. Harry was the father of my friend Zak-keyboard player and friend in my ex's band. Here's Harry, Zak his godfatherRingo and 2 band members at Ringo's house 22 years ago.
@sassygirl3869
Harry Nilsson had an amazing voice.
Slayer’s cover of Ina Garda Da Vida, even though I love Iron Butterfly’s original
Ugh In A Gadda Da Vida. Autofuckup strikes again
Off the top of my head, Foo Fighters covering Baker Street.
Don Henley covering Leonard Cohen's Everybody Knows

And now for something completely different, but very good:
Honeywagon's blue grass cover of Billie Jean/Billy Jean:
What a surprise! Really good. Liked it a lot. So glad I thought of doing covers or I never would know this existed.
I would say nirvana' s cover of "the man who sold world" i love Bowie but nirvana did it better
@Donotbelieve I second that!
@TroyBarber64 i love bowie saw him with duran duran. I am annoyed so many friend played with bowie amd talked to him. I would have loved to met him
@Donotbelieve i love bowie but nirvana s cover awsome i remember seeing bowie with duran duran
@DavidAckerman I was a musician in the Seattle area as Soundgarden, Mother Love Bone, Nirvana, etc., Rose to fame, it was a great time to be in the right place at the right time. We came on the scene in '89, had some radio airplay, but never left the region.
I agree with you that Nirvana's version is great, but I am a hardcore Bowie fan, I was devastated when he died, it felt like part of me was lost.
@TroyBarber64 i am in portland oregon doing band photos. Portland and seattle bands going back and forth. I want to seattle 3 times with bands. Photos of nirvana opening for mudhuney. It was a great time in the nw
@DavidAckerman yes it was. Do you remember a couple Portland bands: Love On Ice, and Sweaty Nipples? I've seen both a few times, once together - that was an amazing show!
