Isn't summer solstice tomorrow?

Yes, and it was my brothers birthday too. Its also known as the longest day of sunlight in the year. He would have been 55 tomorrow...I miss him...still.

Yep, solstices are 21st, equinox are 20th.

@iamjc equinox is the halfway between solstices, typically called spring and fall.

Did you know that the original meaning of the word heathen meant "one living in the heath" and the heath was basically anything outside of a city. It became a derogatory word used by city folk to make fun of country folk. So I guess that makes me a heathen turned bougie. ?

And a fine Summer Solstice day it is and good to be alive on such a fine day (in spite of all that is happening in this country and the world).

You too 🙂 how exciting, but winter is coming.

to all 7 kingdoms?

@IamNobody well it's snowing in the red keep, but I think the Tyrrells old place and Dorne are still sunny for now 😉

Having a party Friday evening to celebrate.

Thank you, and Right bacatchya. The only thing for me is I live in Florida. Summer is crazy hot. So I'll give thanks to those that build and fix air condishiners.

Question: Isn't the first day of Summer supposed to coincide with the solstice?

Yep you are correct. They are actually one in the same

I think so.

@AmelieMatisse : Hmmm... Today is solstice but my calendar says tomorrow is the first day of summer.

@dare2dream this is tricky. Summer Solstice occurs when the sun enters the first degree of Capricorn so depending on your time zone it will make a difference

As excuses to have a party or a feast, I reckon the solstices are very valid. It's marking off the year and being aware of our planet's journey around the Sun, there is something quite scientific about it.

"Some sacred sites, around the world will draw huge crowds as the Summer Solstice is honored. Stonehenge has an entrance-way that was aligned with the solstice sunrise and is a popular gathering place for modern druids and others enthusiasts on midsummer’s day."
