"What makes Earth feel like hell is our expectation that it should feel like heaven" -Chuck Palahniuk
IMO we really are in heaven at all times but we usually are thinking of other things and lack awareness and appreciation. Our perception of reality is not reality. You can think of heaven as a higher realm—not supernatural, but just beyond our understanding based on our space/time/matter model.
As for hell, there’s no such thing, but a person can create great unhappiness for himself by thinking judgmental, untrue thoughts. That is the only way of attaining unhappiness in fact.
One of the weirdest cults I have come across, Caodaist church, claims that Earth is planet 68. Planet 72 is the last before hitting hell, whereas planet one ... Well you guessed it. So getting to paradise would require a lot of planet hopping.
Hell, Earth is like heaven to me! I guess it's a matter of how you look at it.
Earth never felt like hell to me... life been a blast.
its how we perceive ourselves. We can make our lives here heaven by not wanting more then we can afford and expecting things to just happen for us. Or we can make life here our own personal hell by being upset about everything. Complain about things we have no control over or refusing to do anything about the things upsetting us.
Good one. I remember reading about depression being caused by the expectation that negative emotions can be completely eradicated. Obviously life is pain, pleasure, and in betwixt.
I love life! I feel like I live on one of the most beautiful places on Earth. I feel like I have been given so much and I have the oppurtunity to help others every day. Sounds like Heaven to me. I battle depression and right now I am winning so I get feeling like your in Hell too.
There was a great quote from one my favotite comediens Jim Jeffreis. Where he said something like" I don't even want heaven as an option, It's eternal, you'll get used to it, and then you'll be fucking bored".
I think part of what fuels depression in a lot of people are unmet (and unrealistic)
expectations.
There is nothing anywhere that says people are entitled to being happy.
While I realize some will say that's harsh, it doesn't change the fact that it's true.
It's just another line of bullshit that we've been fed, like the "American Dream".
The "Pursuit of happiness", listed in the Declaration of Independence as one of the 3 "inalienable rights" has gotten an awful lot of people twisted beyond all reason.
None of us are "entitled" to anything. I think believing we are gets a lot of us into
trouble.
(Self) fulfillment is what we should seek.
I have been through hell, since then life has actually been pretty good.
Well enough of a hell for me, there's always someone that's had a worse time, though I wish it wasn't so.
