Both important, different meaning

Thanksgiving! Turkey, per-taters with lots of gravy and football games on TV all day long? Best holiday ever!

Thanksgiving here. Just because it's more of a family holiday. The 4th is more of a social party holiday in my experience.

July 4th ,we start celebrating Christmas about a month before Halloween.

Thanksgiving, but I think it's because of the proximity to the holiday about the big guy in the red suit.

Thanksgiving. Typically, you get more time off. It's reinforced by being close to Christmas and the Christmas shopping rush, the next day. People travel to visit relatives for Thanksgiving. I've never heard of anyone traveling for the 4th.

July 4 is actually a very busy travel day, but it's different from winter holidays. Travel tend to be more about barbecues, beaches, picnics, family reunions, etc. It's more skewed toward driving versus flying, especially compared to Thanksgiving and Christmas. [cntraveler.com]

@cmadler The article made no mention of Thanksgiving. Any holiday will have more travel than other times. Most 4th of July travel is just day trips with no overnight stays. Very different indeed, for what people do on Thanksgiving.

I like both simply because school has a break and I am off. Same in the past since I was a manager in manufacturing and holidays were off days. As for importance, meh. Thanksgiving is the day everyone over eats to celebrate stealing land. The 4th you blow stuff up, hopefully not any body part, to celebrate kicking other people out of the land we stole in the first place..

I'd say Thanksgiving judging by travel. Everybody goes home if they can.

Black Friday. Its so powerful it's taken over a whole other holiday.

It is a good question. I think Christmas is the biggest holiday here, then 4th of July. One big holiday every 6 months. I think Thanksgiving kind of gets overshadowed by Christmas, but I could be wrong. After all, Thanksgiving is the only holiday for which I get 2 paid days off instead of one - so that makes it my favorite! ?

I've never been a big fan of any holiday. I like the days off, but not the reason for the celebration. I got used to holidays in college just meaning that I had a long weekend to go down to Mexico (was at U of A at the time).
