I didn't understand the whole "Make America great again" thing. I mean we were the greatest country in the world in 2016. Now I'm starting to get it.

I agree that in many ways America hasn't been the best country to live in for a long time.

However, it has been the leader in world trade and economics. Trump is blowing that by bailing on the G7 (now G6+1), and talking about withdrawing from the WTO.

The US has also been the most powerful nation in the world, not one that kowtows to Putin and the Russians, kisses up to the two bit tin pot dictator of North Korea, or is so insecure that it meeds a major military parade in Washington D.C. Three guesses who is blowing that. The first two don't count.

His idea of being great is to be ruled by a despot whose greed exceeds the wildest dreams of attainment.Let us deny him this dream.

Actually, it is in fact nordic countries that make up the top 10 best countries in the world according to international matrices. It is only Americans or people from 3rd world countries that espouse the myth of America being the greatest nation in the world. Y'all have not been great for a VERY long time. Sorry not sorry.

Exactly.

Got to agree there. To me the 'Great America' ideal is one of the most over-hyped and introspective ideas in Modern history. The Anerican Dream, from me, an outsider's view, is a 'White middle class Conservative's' dream.

The Land Of The Free wasn't too great from the imported slaves perspective. Nor the genocide of the indigenous people, nor the service men who went to fight pointless wars in Vietnam and Korea. Nor the lantern bearers caught up in the McCarthy witch hunt.

If any Americans now hold The American Dream, probably be best not admiring black boxers, or admiring indigenous philosophy, or declsre how they would love to go on holiday to Vietnam or eat their food or applaud the writings of Arthur Miller.

It is not because of the American Dream that these people and ideas are succesful. It is in spite of it. If the Anerican Dream had its way, these successes wouldn't exist.

It's just now with Trump in charge the cracks are being held up to the light.

@Geoffrey51 This image I came across weeks back sums it up nicely 🙂

@TheAstroChuck Not to mention the neoliberal policies and offshoring of jobs that American industries are famously engaging in.

All empires will end, crash and burn. Some last 800 years, others less than 80 years. I accept the beginning of the end. Next...

@TheAstroChuck That is what a vietnam do to you.

@TheAstroChuck Vietnam was our first war without a point. At least Korea used the communist fear. The drug culture that started on the 60's. For 20 years, from 1980 to 2000 all I did was train to fight the russian Navy. They still don't have a chance, I was in a greek shipyard doing repairs next to a russian ship in the 80's. American mentality has changed to the point of today circus. Japan owns half of the island of Manhattan. We owe money to China. Russia has our president in its pocket. Maybe the biggest satisfaction of my life is that I never served for trump as my commander in chief.

Yes, you were a great country once but not in recent years. The founding principles of America have been trashed, not by you the citizens, but by the politicians. They have. made the laws and pursued the policies that have allowed big business and vested interests to corrupt and manipulate things to their advantage. They are in thrall of the twin evils of religion and kickbacks. Only you the voters can change things, surely there must be more sane right minded people in the country than those who believe that Trump is actually able to make America great again when he is accelerating its decline.

@McVinegar
Vote for what ? If either bad or very bad is the only option, why vote ?

@McVinegar
I Don't live there so I am off the field. Why do so many Americans, even on this site, moan so much ? It is easy to remove him if the will is there ? Maybe they just secretely like the guy !

I can't say that America has ever been a great country. Other than Hollywood, Blues and McDonald's what other legacies has it left to the world apart from wholesale destruction wherever it puts its feet, both at home and abroad.

Central America is inhabited by +/- 50,000.000 people. I hope you have room in your home to house all of them....including the gangs members and all kinds of criminals.

If the innocent children were really incarcerated nobody would be saying they have been separated from their parents...who are the ones in detention centers for breaking the law.

The ones in the detention centers are claiming asylum. They are NOT breaking the law. They have a right under international law to seek asylum, and under Our law (8 USC 1225) they are here legally while their clam is being heard.

The criminals are the ones separating their children with no plan of ever returning them. That is called kidnapping and it is a crime (18 USC 1201).

Stop buying into Trump's demagouery and fear mongering. According to CBP (Customs and Border Patrol), of all of the people attempting to cross the border last year only .000189% had any association with MS-13.

You are totally terrified by Trump's boogeyman to the point that you are willing to give up any semblance of humanity and decency, meanwhile how many children are being killed every year because we let the reasonable gun control laws put in place with the backing of Ronald Reagan lapse?

@mcgeo52
They broke the lay by entering w/o permission. No difference with a person entering your house w/o your OK.

Who are the criminals? Please, you don't have any idea if some of those seeking asylum committed a crime in their own land.

Separating the children from the parents...as bad as it is / sounds...is the law.

Trump doesn't induce any fear in me with his speeches...I am from South America...I KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON IN LATIN AMERICA.

The gangs in Central America are horrid...and is true many of the CA inhabitants are in danger....but is not USA the nation that must solve their problems. Their respective presidents should.

BTW, there are many American Consulates . Embassies in the region.......and there is where they should apply for asylum...as the Cuban did in the Peruvian embassy in Habana last century. Remember the "Marielitos"?

Uh...no..... in 2016 we were in decline already despite what good people are here. The fucking Republicans have consistently fucked us since the 50's. Look at Danmark, and other Scandinavian countries., Happiest, heathiest, taxed yes, but not the racist, misogynist, assholes we have here. Google it. Great fictional Jeff Bridges fictional vid out there. I do have a theory; If you steal land, commit atrocities (Manifest Destiny) all while waving the flag and carrying a bible, generation after generation, it becomes part of your DNA and ruins your brain.......

I would have to differ with you on your claim that the "Republicans have consistently fucked us since the 50's."

Republican President Eisenhower was one of the best things that ever happened for the average American.

The real problem with the Republicans began with the publication of the Powell Memo on August 23, 1971. If you are not familiar with the Powell Memo, it is the blueprint the oligarchs have used to hijack our country. Research it.

I think we have just handed the mantle to Canada. (Love ya, northern neighbors! I am so sorry for this f**king trade war idiocy!)
