Do you ever look at young people and wonder what their 50th high school reunion will be like? I mean, will the then sixty-eight year olds be trying to converse over the din of hip-hop music? Will they be on the dance floor flailing about, mouthing the words to a Jay-Z "song"? Will they reminisce about the outdated technology of their youth . . . Cell phones, IPads, Super Mario video games? Will they remember the day that Roe vs. Wade was rolled back? What comes to mind when you imagine today's youth fifty years from now?

Mostly impoverished, without much work, resigned to the gang culture of their children and still expecting their government to get them out of the mess. Probably too exhausted and dispirited to even consider a school reunion. I really hope I am wrong and I am not a pessimist but that looks like the trajectory from where I am at the moment 😟

I'm 30 and went to my ten year reunion a few years ago and there wasn't anything wild or crazy going on. We just chatted about high school and what our jobs were. It was pretty boring honestly. I doubt much will change 40 years from now.

By then they will have lost the power of speech and the only reunion will be with old selfie images of themselves!

@RobLawrence Glad you thought so. I just think young people are too self absorbed today, image is king and textspeak will soon become the norm in communication. And I’m usually such an optimist.!

@RobLawrence Haven’t heard of Joel and Lia, I must take a look. I don’t go to London too often, but my son and family live in Leicester so I am over there every couple of months. It’s amazing the changes that cities go through over the years , and it’s quite a shock when you return after a number of years. Nice to know you have a fondness for “old blighty” and you have the Irish connection too. The world can be quite a small place when you realise how connected we all are.

That's a sobering thought. What will I be like then?

@RobLawrence

I'd say quality is more important than longevity.

I didn't even think about my 50th high school reunion.

@RobLawrence l totally relate. I went to my 20th, the only one l ever went to, and l came away feeling down. No desire to do that again.

I'd be more interested in being a fly on the wall to watch what happens on the dance floor at the old folks home in 2070 when the DJ plays Back That Ass Up.

I graduated HS in 1956 and have never attended a reunion. I thought about my 50th but a classmate advised me not to attend and to just remember them as they were when we were in HS.

I think that was probably good advice. Good memories are best kept that way.

@RobLawrence You would expect everyone to put their best foot forward, especially how they look, at an event like that.
