Do you think that Atheists have different senses of humor compared to other people? I realize the overly general nature of the question but have just recently encountered a couple (different occasions) totally humorless Atheists and it got me wondering if there is a difference. Are Atheists sticks in the mud? Or did I just encounter people who didn't happen to like me or our encounter? Maybe I just be too cool.....

Besides, what is there not to like? As Jack Nicholson says in Easy Rider "Its not you they're afraid of, its what you represent"

My experience is that some atheists are inclined to engage in polemic statements about religion, although, as far as I am aware, religion is not a concept that they are concerned about. These particular types seem as defensive and reactive as some of their religious counterparts. Humourless? Probably not. Stuck in the mud? Well, perhaps a request to lighten up could be in order as what what other people believe is not that important unless of course one is evangelising.

In my experience most of my atheist friends like dark humor and intelligent jokes more than the normies lol.

Here's one atheist with a sense of humour:

I seem to be one of the few Atheists that don't think Maher is all that funny. He's just ok in my book.

Depends on the people, I’d say atheists have similar distributions of humor to any other group. Some atheists, as well as some theists, take themselves way too seriously.

I've run into the same thing here.

Unfortunately, there are some people of all ilks who are humorless. It is a personality issue.

True. I like your name btw.

@itsmedammit As I do not text, I have to ask: What does "btw" mean?

@wordywalt by the way

@itsmedammit Thanks. he nickname came from the fact that I used to write a lot, particularly professional writing. Where in Illinois is Wadsworth? Years ago, I lived in Galesburg for 5 years.

@wordywalt Very far north, west of Waukegan. I've never heard of Galesburg.

@itsmedammit Galesburg is about 40 miles from the Quad cities in far western Illinois. It is the site of the first Lincoln - Douglas debate -- at Know College. I taught at Knox, a good small liberal arts college then about 1,,600 students. .

It depends on the person, some of do have various sense's of humor, some dark, some light. I find mine to be dark but will laugh at the light as well

I'm funny AF....and I find thesis to be up tight about everything.

One would think atheists would enjoy an irreverant sense of humor since they hold less things sacred, but I have not found that to be the case.

Most people have no, or and underdeveloped sense of humor. Belief in the supernatural, though that in itself is funny, is not an indicator of humor.
As for me, I have an overdeveloped, bizarre, twisted, and totally bananas sense of humor! And it's probably hereditary, because my daughter has it too!
Blame a lack of a sense of humor on bad genes, air pollution, or too much kale!

We all have different sense of humor. If I find it funny I will laugh.
