Minimum wage in the US was originally meant to be a living wage.

Since when will one income minimum wage provide for housing, food and bills?
It certainly did for me in the 70's. Then along came Reagonomics, which is why we can no longer have nice things.

In other words, $10 in the year 1970 is equivalent in purchasing power to $63.09 in 2017, a difference of $53.09 over 47 years.
