At his rally in Great Falls, Montana, on July 5, Trump claimed that he has been cleared by Congress of collusion with the Russians during the 2016 campaign. I can think of several words that describe the president's statement: prevarication, falsehood, canard, fraud, mendacity, deception.....LIE!
Congress has NOT cleared the president of wrongdoing.
Funny thing is, the lie was completely gratuitous. Trump was not responding to a direct question. (When was the last time he faced reporters in an open press conference?) He just threw the lie out there to his audience of sycophants, along with the usual red meat linking immigrants to MS13 and other such claptrap. Why did he even bring up the Russia investigation? Because he's worried! He's scared stless! Any innocent person would want the investigation to go forward so that their name would be cleared. Not Trump. He sends his barking dog Rudolph the red-faced representative on a media tour to attack and discredit the investigators. He does these things because his only hope of escaping justice is to lie, to sling mud, to distract, to play for time. If this were not an American POTUS we are talking about I might derive more pleasure from watching this ahole squirm.
