Women who kill their partners are still being treated differently to men

*After we cleared Emma Humphreys’ name 23 years ago we thought the law would support women who had been violently abused. We were wrong"

I don't think the issue should be whether men and women are treated differently. If a man or a woman kills an abusive partner, that is the issue that should be looked at and it should be treated completely differently from everyday violent crime. But it is true that women are still much more harshly treated by the courts. A much higher percentage of women who commit non-violent crimes are sent to prison than men, in both the UK and the USA.

I swear Feminism is going backwards. Perhaps I should say "Women's Rights".

You should have the right to defend yourself if someone uses violence against you.

idk if I can stand to read this.... after watching my share of "crime tv" women get the book thrown at them for stuff. One case in particular that still galls me to this day was 2 women who mickey finned a guy wanting a 3 way. They took his money, he lived. Nobody died. They were given some insane life sentence or something crazy in Texas.
Not that they weren't in the wrong mind you, but if not life(i can't recall exactly) almost life? There are rapists & pedophiles running amok with less time.

I began to notice watching these that there must be some other standard women are held to that men aren't. See that vile brock kid et al. smh

DV is definitely felt by both men and women, but what’s usually worse are victims of DV who get longer jail terms for not defending their kids from THEIR abuser as well than the actual abuser gets in prison.

As far as I'm concerned, if you can prove that you have been physically abused and/or coerced and threatened in to staying with your abuser (regardless of your sex), then if you kill your abuser you should face no legal consequences. It should be considered self defense.

Wow! This is a gross violation of civil rights. Horrible these cases are still being tried so unfairly.
