Did anyone see Michael Moore on the last episode of the season of Bill Maher? He was genuinelt REALLY SCARED. He predicted tRump would win, so did I. Hillary and the democrats really have ignored the displaced workers. And tRump played to them with the anti immigrant , free trade pitch. I don't know if that will help the coal miners or other disintermediated workers , but he did follow though with his promises . Michael Moore believes Donald will now dismantle the checks and balances removing the two term limits, dismantle NATO and align the US with Russia and belly up to strongmen like that in Turkey and the Phillipines.

Meanwhile Congress and the Senate do nothing to reign him in. The moderate purple state republicans cower and follow.

Will our Republic fall to fascism?

Michael Moore says we should start preparing to die for this country if we are to preserve it. Is that where we are in time?

Michael Moore is an idiot who somehow thinks he is relevant.

1

Is there genuine cause for concern? Yes, but Moore seems a little alarmist. What he says won't happen for at least a couple more decades as the world economy becomes thinner and thinner with the fight for depleting oil. People on the other side thought that Obama was going to get rid of term limits too. I really don't see the U.S. aligning with Russia either. War with China, Russia, and Iran is PROBABLY inevitable, but we are still not there yet. The closer we get though, the more possible Moore's scenario coming true becomes. Besides, if everything goes the way it's predicted to go, then NATO will fall apart naturally as the U.S. tries to bulldoze other desperate nations clinging to their economic ideals through oil. It will basically be each nation for themselves.

Saw the show....pretty much agree with everything Michael Moore had to say.

A candidate that Democrats can rally around has yet to emerge. Remember Barak Obama was relatively unknown before 2008.

Let's see what Mueller has on Trump before declaring defeat. I think it's going to be pretty juicy. They postponed General Flynn's sentencing because he still has to testify about what Trump knew and when he knew it. Stay tuned!

Hope so. He is like a submarine.

I think Mueller is going to release a lot of really disparaging info - but none of it will rise to the level of actually indicting trump. A bunch of other people will go down but like the cockroach he is, trump will be able to scuttle away. If there is one thing that will be trump's undoing - it may very well be the information on his tax returns that he is soooo zealousy guarding. We shall see.....

@Lavergne
Even if he cannot be indicted, he can be convicted in the court of public opinion. And that's all we really need.

@Flyingsaucesir Have you actually listened to any of his devout followers? They will not believe anything that comes out of the investigation - they've already chalked it up as the ultimate witch hunt against poor little Donald. I can't tell you how many of them are STILL telling me "what's wrong with you - why can't you just give him a CHANCE?" It's like they are deaf, dumb and blind to everything he does....

@Flyingsaucesir I doubt anything happens to Trump. Besides, does the court of public opinion really need any more dirt on Trump to judge him?

I feel that we are headed in that direction. There is nothing happening at the point in time that leads me to believe otherwise. I hope I am wrong. 😟

The price of the American reliance on technology to research, advertise for, and actually conduct our elections is a vulnerable infrastructure easily penetrated by bad people. This is the Achilles heel of our republic. If the current cabal is able to consolidate power by continuing to attack and exploit this vulnerability, it will probably take some bloodshed to right the ship, though I really hope that it doesn't come to that. I never though I'd live to see this.

It could very well come to that, but I don't think it will.

I've been thinking much the same thing....

I’m not getting whipped up into a fearful frenzy. Sorry.

Not my intent. I would appreciate your thoughts on why that isnt warranted. Thanks

@Bigwavedave I can’t really think of any situation where a fearful frenzy would be helpful.

@goldenvalleyguy I hope time proves you correct t bro

@goldenvalleyguy , until it's no longer this way. With the republicans help Trump may decide not to leave. We wouldn't b the first country taken over by a dictator. History is full of examples.

@goldenvalleyguy , What is not valid about it? Please tell?

Being aware and being "whipped into a fearful frenzy" are two completely different things. I'll be the first to admit Moore often sounds like chicken little.

@goldenvalleyguy tRump has been dangling the possibility of doing away with term limits....he would like nothing more than to be president for life. Now that's truly frightening.

@Lavergne You know Trump can’t just ammend the constitution to remove term limits, right? Ratifying an amendment is a fairly difficult thing to do and takes quite a bit of political agreement.

@indirect76 Oh I am well aware of how difficult (impossible?) it would be - but every time someone says "oh there's NO way this or that could possibly happen"........and then it does. We are living in very bizarre times, I'm afraid.

I can't drop all the blame on Hillary or the DNC. Democrats and moderates need to be accountable. They don't get out to vote as reliably. Some were too busy "voting my conscience" instead of making a realistic, grown up choice. Politicians have gotten lazy and greedy because the votrs have gotten to lazy to be invested and interested in who they allow to shape their country. Not voting is as much of a choice as voting. Every person who is quick to complain about abortion rights, lgbtq, marijuana etc, and didn't show up, have earned my disdain along with the Trumpers.

Agreed

Let's also remember that Trump lost the popular vote, and that he got a lot of help from Russia. I'm sure the Russians will keep on screwing with us, but now we are at least aware of their shenanigans. And now there is a lot more anti-Trump energy. There is reason for optimism.

@Flyingsaucesir and I still run into the "it doesn't matter" and "it doesn't affect me". Sadly, I hear this mostly from young black men. The quite Obama years have left an already passive, liberal (potential) voter, even more complacent. We need to talk to them and everyone else and shake them out of the apathy that's destroying everything good about this country.

@Jess2zz, you are correct up to a point. That's the point where gerrymandering has rigged the districts so badly that votes don't count. And now the supreme court. We are fucked..

@freeofgod gerrymandering is a huge issue, no argument there. But again, too many just don't care and won't bother to vote for those who would help. Sadly, because of all the gerrymandering, we need to get much more turnout than we should have to, to tip the scale. They have to show up.

That's a very simple analysis that ignores many factors in our system.

@Flyingsaucesir You don't think the U.S. government was already watching for the tons of times other countries have tried to sway or hack our elections and other systems?

@Piece2YourPuzzle in aware of a lot of things, but I'm not going to write a novel. My point is about voter responsibility.

@Piece2YourPuzzle btw you can do as I did and make your own comments, with your own views without trying to push me to do it for you. Gerrymandering, hacking/ government interference and a ton of other factors are great points. But it's not my responsibility to make those points because you thought of it.

@Jess2zz My response was ABOUT your point of voter responsibility. I am making my own comments. Don't be offended because I'm having a discussion with you. I wasn't talking about gerrymandering, hacking, or government interference. I didn't ask you to do a damn thing for me. Why the hell are you being so defensive? People go back to the same simple "solution" of voting without considering the nature of the system in which they vote. I'm not saying don't vote, but I don't think the people who don't vote should be demonized. They're an easy scapegoat without delving deeper into the corrupt system. You also falsely believe that if droves of more people came out to vote that they would agree with who you would vote for. You obviously fall HARD, and possibly blindly (not sure), on one of the two sides of the political paradigm in the U.S. (Republican/Democrat). I believe THAT's more hurtful to democracy than the people who don't vote. That's just my opinion though, and one of my comments. Thanks though.

@Piece2YourPuzzle I'm not being defensive. I didn't demonize anyone, I pointed out that irresponsible voting is an issue. I also didn't say people would vote with me. What I said was because of gerrymandering, you would need more votes to get a majority than you should. These are different things.

I'm afraid he is right. Very afraid. Just look at all the hate speech that has happened since Trump took office. The man ranting over the woman wearing a Puerto Rico tshirt. That man was charged with a hate crime thankfully. All the videos against people black people using a pool, barbequeing, selling water. The list grows longer every day. We've passed the tipping point. I don't know if we'll ever come back from this.

That s what I am worried about

All that racism was there before Trump. He just gave it a higher profile. That's ok. You have to see a snake before you can cut its head off.

@Flyingsaucesir , Trump not only unleashed it he encouraged it. That's the difference. He's made it acceptable to be openly racist, bigoted and misogynistic. That should never be acceptable.

I have always wanted to move back to Greece. I think now is the time to leave this country before it’s too late.

@maturin1919 That was 10 years ago. The economy has gotten stronger since China came in and bought everything. Greece has become much more diverse, well Athens anyway.

This is my country. I'm going to stand and fight. To my last breath. I will not be run off by some yellow-bellied, orange-headed peckerwood.

@Flyingsaucesir this is not my country. I wasn't born here. I became an American citizen when I was 7, it was not my choice. I'm glad I have dual citizenship though and am free to work in Europe without having to jump through hoops. I love this country it has some stunning scenery but I can not tolerate the hate and ignorance.

@maturin1919 I have no idea and I really don’t care. I would rather live in Europe than in America the way it is today.
