Oh the joys of getting older. I went to the eye doctor today. After the exam he told me he was referring me to the cataract specialist. He wants me to get both eyes done because it would also fix the astigmatism in my left eye. Of course it's the good eye that has the worst cataract.

But here's the kicker, I have insurance. But the deductible is $7200. Yeah, sure no problem.

I know how you feel. I went to a doctor I was put on blood pressure medication. We're shooting for 150 over 90 . I asked isn't that high? And he said yeah. Call your insurance company. I have a high-deductible too, but they might cover eye exams and needed procedures

Holy macaroni! I can't even imagine.

Sheesh, I had mine done 5 years ago and Medicare took care of the whole thing. What gives here? I must be living ina great area. After the surgery, I renewed my drivers license and for the first time in 62 years, I passed the eye test without glasses.

Ouch . Call your insurance company and ask if there's another specialist nearby , who charges less .

The next closest is going to be a minimum of 3.5 hours away. Plus this surgeon is one of the very best.

Eye surgery today is a breeze, compared to even 15 years ago, I had my right eye Cataract done in San Diego about 20 years ago,and my left eye done after our move to Missouri about 10 years ago. You will see sharper, colors will be more vivid,no more squinting to read a book, use the computer or cell phone.

I had a 6k deductible/copay when I got both eyes done 2 years ago. Had to refi my house to raise the money. The thought of surgery was very scary to me and I worked myself into a miserable state waiting to have it. But now that's all over, I can go without glasses for the first time since 1973, and I'm enjoying collecting cheap sunglasses now, and wearing them!

I don't have a house to refi. I've seen the surgery though and we happen to have one of the world's premier cataract surgeons here. I think he has retired but I'm sure he trained all the docs in his clinic.
