If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be, and why aren't you there already?

I’d just like a better pad somewhere in my city (NY) I’m trying to stay away from the coast with tsunamis and hurricanes

I am pretty happy where I am, but I do love Singapore! It is just a bit too humid to live there permanently.

I can’t really explain. I have been all over Asia but there was just something I loved there. My husband used to say it was because it was like a lot of other Asian cities but cleaner and more civilised. I don’t think it was that, but the combination of Chinese, Malay and Indian cultures along with the British colonial influence make it special. We couldn’t have afforded to live there anyway, it’s one of the most expensive place in the world to live.

Panajachel, Guatemala. Soon I hope.

I have a Canadian friend who goes there almost yearly; loves the place, loves the people. I told him I was looking into Ajijic, Mexico, and he greatly encouraged me to check out Panajachel; both apparently have large expat communities.

@Condor5 that is correct.

@Condor5, @Redcupcoffee it is a beautiful place with majestic views and amazing people.

@Erick67 isn't there also a large lake, as there is by Ajijic?

@Condor5 Lake Atitlan. Panajachel is on the north shore. The lake is surrounded by 3 volcanos. There are 12 pueblitos around it.

@Erick67 looks and sounds like a gorgeous place. My friend wanted me to go there last year with him and his girlfriend, but I was already planning a week in Honolulu and couldn't do both. Maybe next time.

I want to live in a little town in Southern Germany. I'm not there yet because it takes money to relocate and also to apply for a visa, citizenship, and passport. I'm working on it though.

@Matias By skilled, I'm assuming you mean plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, and the like. I'm not one of those, but I have fueled aircraft before.

@Redcupcoffee I really need to get a passport too. At least I would have that.

Because you need lots of money to immigrate as well as a job but no one in the good countries will hire people in another country that doesn't have really good credentials

Eventually, every place becomes a disappointment; but I would like to go back to Amsterdam.

@Redcupcoffee Dutch people, water, general feeling of laissez-faire.

But I am here.

Because she hasn't asked me to move in with her.

I've lived in a few different places in North America, Canada the US and Mexico, also the West Indies, Bermuda, Ecuador and Nicaragua. All of those places had pros and cons but the most important factor was always my own personal state of mind.
Yesterday is a cancelled cheque and tomorrow is but a promissory note, only today is cash. How you live your life has more to do with you than anything else, where is just a contributing factor but not the crucial one.

Bermuda is a beautiful place . Mom lived there for over fifty years .

When I was approaching retirement , I gave a lot of thought to where I wanted to live , even including moving to another country . I spent 4 years looking at homes online , and made a few trips to view homes , in person . I had arranged to fly in and meet with a real estate agent , on a Wednesday , and sent her the MSL numbers of homes I wanted to see . I asked her to check for what flood plain they were on , which eliminated a few , and asked her to plan a circle trip to view as many as we could , which eliminated a few more . I was away for the preceding weekend , but Monday , after work , I stopped in at the library and viewed some more . I sent her a new MLS listing and told her it was the OMG house , to please add it to the list , which she did . After viewing the OMG house , we stopped at a Chinese resturant for lunch . As I was getting back in her SUV , lightening cracked directly overhead . Not thunder , CRACKED . I looked up , said , "OK , I got it ," got in her car and told her instead of looking at more houses we may as well go back to her office and write up the paperwork .

@Redcupcoffee I've been living in it for the past eleven and a half years . They told me another couple drove in from Louisiana the weekend after my visit , intending to put in a bid . But I got in first .

I'd move to New Zealand. Only way to pull that off is to be independently wealthy.

@Redcupcoffee I have looked into it. Pulling the trigger is a little tricky.

1

Hawaii, in retirement. I'm not there because it's financially infeasible. I expect that situation won't change.

@Redcupcoffee Much more easily said than done. I love your can-do attitude tho. =]

2

I would choose to stay right here on my farm, in Central Alberta, Canada. I love my life here, the mountains are only an hour away, it isn't overcrowded, we have free healthcare, I will get a pension and old age security at 65, my family(that i like) lives nearby, no one is getting shot, etc. not much to dislike about it.

2

Bangkok in Thailand. Why am I not there yet? I still enjoy being productive. My job challenges me with a delicate balance between killing me and keeping me young. The minute they kick me out, off I go over there to party non stop until I drop dead...it should take about a week ???

the point here is that I "could" live anywhere in the world....but, since I can't live everywhere, I live in one place and do a lot of traveling.

IT's not about moving there, it's about visiting EVERYWHERE.

🙂

Has anyone invented a convertible tiny house that can sit on land or float on the ocean? Because that's where I want to be. As to why I'm not there, besides the above-stated conundrum... financial constraints.

I do believe there are such homes now. Do some research.

@Condor5 I might just have to that.

@ghettophilosopher sounds like a nice way to live. I know that in many major port cities people live on houseboats; Portland, OR, for example. You might even check on Youtube for such craft. Now you've got me thinking about it.

I have been all over the country and I have decided that the Florida Keys is where I am going to finish my life. I am not there already because I am not quite ready to go yet.

@Redcupcoffee It is all internal but it really has to do with the inner peace I feel when I am there. I could go on for pages with the details.

I have traveled to many places in the world. I’m not sure where my favorite spot is. So i am still actively looking. Perhaps my favorite place is not a destination but the journey itself. I am writing this post to you as I sit in Costa Rica. I am taking a small break from swimming in the Pacific on Jaco Beach. Costa Rica is a beautiful country with very friendly people. I will be leaving here in a few days to return home in Florida. I am already planning my next journey. The search will continue... 🙂

I’ve lived in Italy for 30 years (age 0-21). Then I finished college in Spain (2 years). Then Boston, then Italy again, now Florida.

Each place is amazing in its own way, with inevitable drawbacks. I’m growing tired of Miami, heat, traffic, fake lips and boobs entering a room a minute before their owner ?

I miss Asia, but I wouldn’t really live there for too long I think... I don’t know... The US is great for working, Europe is tiny and old and beutiful, with languages and history and amazing food... I miss it so much, but it’s harder to make a living there. I wish I could just live in a million places for a year at the time. I’d start with Asia. It’s so different.

I already live in the Kootenays in British Columbia, Canada. Feel blessed to be here.

0

I've been to, and worked in, many countries but it is hard to beat Australia or New Zealand as places to live.

0

I would move to Kenya but I would have to win a big lottery first. Lacka money.

0

I like where I am now, near Puget Sound, just North of Seattle. I would also live in the SF Bay Area, Vancouver or Victoria, BC or any number of places in Australia or New Zealand.

If Trump doesn't get impeached after the midterms I will move out of the USA. To Canada, Australia, or New Zealand. Probably to Victoria, BC. I've lived there before, housing is so much cheaper than Vancouver, I don't really want to work anymore, and there isn't a quarantine for my dog. I'll get preferential status to immigrate to Canada as I did my undergad there, worked there, and am in one of the highest scoring fields.

There isn't anything stopping me other than a lot of paperwork for immigration, selling my house, buying a new house, moving... I could do it anytime.

@Redcupcoffee Hell yes! I don't want to live in a country that elects DJT to the presidency and then the republicans all side with DJT against the USA, to the benefit of our greatest enemy, and enriching themselves. Starting trade wars, elevating the DPRK to our status, disrupting the NATO alliance and G7...

On track to overturn Roe v. Wade, foster racial division and hatred, trying to return to a past better left behind.

They've already talked about draining funds from Social Security and Medicare which might lead to a civil war. If they haven't already started a big war to distract the public from all of the corruption...

At least the republicans held Nixon to account. That's not happening this time.

Do I want to, no. Will I, unless it looks like there is a clear light at the end of the tunnel, yes.

SE Asia.

Not there because I have no viable source of income to earn a living once I got there.
