I'm confused. I responded to this post because I thought that my angst about cruelity toward animals was relevant to what the post purports to be about. Surely, my distress about other sentient beings must qualify me as a "highly sensitive person"! The post was extremely vague, and confusing. If I may have responded inappropriately, the fault lyes with the orignal postee, as nobody seems to understand her intentions, and outrage over our replies. Certainly, nobody "hyjacked" this post. I could have mentioned many other symtoms of sensitivity, but chose animal cruelty as my main concern.

Before I'm being accused of being vague and confusing, perhaps you should have checked the links in the group before assuming what the HSP group is about. I describe it in the description of the group as well as give a direct link to the website. If you want to fault me, I have seen many people post a link to a new group without giving a detailed description in their general post, so fault them as well. I am equally perplexed that I am being singled out when I have given direction on where to go to get the information. I have seen no other group announcement posts being held to such strict standards.

@bleurowz The post was inadequate and the subject matter was insufficiently described, which led to many people responding out of supposition as to what you were seeking. This is not a personal attack, or singling out of a targeted individual. Instead of being defensive, I would simply reword the post. Not everyone is willing or capable of researching links. A brief description would have been helpful. If you can't handle constructive criticism maybe you are too highly sensitive, and should therefore consult your own manual on how to handle life?

@friendlycatlady Well, evidently I got through to people because I already got some nice traffic to my page. Perhaps you should know something about HSP before making assumptions about me and how it's supposed to help me. All I did was single you out, and I apologize for that.

Can overly sensitive people join too?

Carin Level 8 Aug 8, 2018

Sure. You can also take the test on Dr. Aron's website (link is at the top of the group page). Some people are more sensitive in some areas than others.

@bleurowz Yay! (I think) I passed both tests with flying colors. I was surprised that sensation seeking would be linked to being highly sensitive. Yesterday I was crawling on my belly inside a small cave in total darkness. Today I went fossil hunting behind a waterfall. But the kids fighting on the back seat on the way back to the hotel was making me crazy.

Can you explain what a highly sensative person is?

The best explanation would be at the link to Dr. Elaine Aron's website on the group page.

What bothers me more than anything is cruelty to animals. People, I find, I lack this kind of empathy towards. I grieve for every animal that isn't loved or cared for. Wish I could adopt them all! I take care of all the stray cats in my nieghborhood. I can't stand the fact that animals are mistreated and slaughtered for food. I think the bible contributes to the lack of empathy most people have toward other sentient beings. The belief that they lack a "soul", and were put here for mankind to use as we wish justifies all the terrible things we do to them.

Exactly. People can call themselves anything they want....but their actions tell the truth.

@SkotlandSkye Not all HSPs are nice. It's a matter of temperament more than anything else. My hope is that people who feel overwhelmed in the world will find a better way to manage it.

Many HSPs are sensitive to animal cruelty, because they don't like to see pain inflicted on anything. Some though aren't in touch with it or say they are sensitive but they don't own it, so they act out. "Highly Sensitive" in the respect of the group is about sensory processing sensitivity.

Thank you, I have a cat, who was the runt of the litter. We found him under a pile of old lumber, so small, so underfed, he could not even meow loud because he strained his vocal cords. We took him in, fed him even let him sleep on the couches. He has a large scratching tree, but he (Beastie) prefers the couch, me, or anything else (typical cat). Now my wife has developed an almost debilitating allergy to his hair, and I am forced to give him up for adoption. He is my freind, the dog's freind and I will miss him greatly when we have to part. I am hurting now, but I want to THANK YOU VERY MUCH for reading my words.

@bleurowz I would immediately question the honestly of anyone who claimed to be highly sensitive but was ok with the horror, pain, terror, exploitation, and death that humans inflict on animals.

@SkotlandSkye Agree. Religious people are forever accusing liberals of being insensitive about abortion, yet do they give a damn about the slaughter and torture of baby animals? Some may say this is off topic, but I don't see it that way. If you care so much about the "sanctity of life", why is it only when it comes to human life? Once you start thinking about morality, the questions of ethics and responsibility goes way beyond the scope of what humans are doing. In fact, it's been theorized that humanity is an affliction on this planet, and a lost cause. The sooner we become extinct, the better.

@SkotlandSkye If you have a problem with this group, then don't join. I've been in several support groups for HSPs on both Facebook and on Yahoo when they still had groups. I know they've helped hundreds of HSPs.

@friendlycatlady you sound like an ethical vegan!! I have the Ethical Vegan group on here....if you would like to join, here's the link 🙂 [agnostic.com]

@friendlycatlady @SkotlandSkye Thank you both so much for hijacking my post. While I don't appreciate cruelty to animals myself, that's not what this was about. Why don't you both go join that group.

@bleurowz join it? I started it. Lol. You “don’t appreciate” animal cruelty? I would think a “highly sensitive person” would be appalled and aghast at it and join the fight to stop it. I would think the mere thought of what animals endure at the hands of humans would leave you in tears hundreds of times each day and that you would fight to help end speciesism. But I guess not everyone cares about all sentient beings....oh wait, I already knew that.

@SkotlandSkye Yes, just because I don't cry my eyes out about it that's makes me cruel and inhuman. That's so sad that you hold such judgements. You may be surprised to know I support causes that protect animals, but no you're just angry. I went to your group and kudos for what you're doing, but too much venom for me there.

@bleurowz Of course I'm angry...I'm angry that humans pretend to care about animals while supporting the very industries that enslave, exploit, and kill animals. I am PROUD that you called me angry. The very BEST people were angry about slavery of humans, the very best people were angry about Jim Crow laws and racism, the very best people were angry that women didn't have rights...or the right to vote....so these very angry people fought long and hard to change systems against powerful people. Very angry people worked long and hard to get governments to accept LGBT marriages as legal contracts recognized by the state. Being angry about injustice is a GOOD thing. Only those that want the injustices to continue see the anger as a "bad" thing...or fight against the changes...or try to insult and mock those that are doing the fighting.

@SkotlandSkye Fine. You want to continue to use my post as a soapbox, fine by me.

@bleurowz just responding to what you wrote. Yep.

@SkotlandSkye If it makes you happy.

"Happy" will come on the day the sun rises on a vegan planet and ALL sentient beings are free from imprisonment, enslavement, terror, and death at the hands of humans.

Heck. Maybe I belong here.

Is this a group for millennials?

Any age.

Sensitive as in emotionally fragile or as in extra sensory perception?

Hi sensory perception, though that can effect moods and well-being. Not emotionally fragile, though many are mistakenly perceived that way. More a matter of temperament.

@daylily It's both for the most part. HSPs percieve things deeply and often feel there's something very wrong with them for it.

@bleurowz We are usually told there is something very wrong with us. A lot of times.

0

based on whose objective criteria or objective evaluation?

The problem with this is that people will join it as a way to self-promote how "sensitive/empathetic" they are....to feed into their own version of how they want others to perceive them no matter how inaccurate it may be.

Based on Dr. Elaine Aron's work. The description and link to her site are in the group description.

@bleurowz So then will each person be verified and validated as a HSP by a 3rd party? OR, is it just self-identification?

@SkotlandSkye There's a test on Dr. Aron's website. They can find out if the trait manifests for them. What's your issue? There are other support groups on this site were people don't have to be "verified."

@bleurowz Right. And I find the lack of verification for claims in other groups problematic also. That's why I asked.

@SkotlandSkye Your take. I'm in at least two support groups here and they're amazingly caring and helpful.

Wow, Dr Phil.

@SkotlandSkye I'm really glad they didn't ask me to verify that I belong in the Cancer Survivors group... scars aren't so pretty...

@Jenelle Since you want to be snarky, I'll address this. I'm a MENSA member. Card-carrying and verified. The group on here for people with High IQs allows anyone in. In the first week I was in the group, I had a stupid idiot from the group send me a dick pic and awful messages. Obviously I left the group. There were other people in there who, if their IQ is MENSA levels, I will eat my hat. People can pretend to be whatever they want online. Also, do you need me to pull up the multitude of people who made the news for faking cancer to get sympathy/money? It happens and you know it happens. I don't trust anyone's motives anymore and I certainly don't take people at their word when they self-identify. I look toward their actions or outside sources for verification.

@SkotlandSkye I'm a cancer surviror. Would you like me to send you my CT scans?

@SkotlandSkye I also deal with depression and anxiety. Would you like me to send you my therapist's notes?

@bleurowz only if you start a go fund me page asking for money.

@SkotlandSkye Well, you just seem to assume all us cancer survivors are selfish. That's also so sad.

@bleurowz No, I just don't take people at their word when they have their hands out. People LIE.

@SkotlandSkye Sad that you only seem to assume the negative first. A few jerks don't make us all bad.

@Jenelle I've got some nifty scars myself!

@SkotlandSkye Just because some misrepresent doesn't mean all do.

Some folks join groups out of curiosity and I really don't mind that unless it's a very intimate group.

Yes there were some fakes in the High IQ group - but if I were insisting on real I'd go to Mensa.

In any group I hope for a few knowledgeable folks and I try to do my part.

The one group I joined I didn't belong in? I asked them if they were cool with it as I kept walking in following scammers. They were btw.

@RavenCT I have no interest in revisiting a conversation from 4-5 months ago. Nor do I need to explain myself further than I did initially. Let it go.

@SkotlandSkye I did not ask you to? I just shared my opinion on the group memberships.

@RavenCT but you tagged me. Why tag me if you are just sharing an opinion. No need to involve me at all.

@SkotlandSkye This Kindle screen is not my forte. Not my intent to single you out. That's this screen.

Hmm can you explain a little about what you want to discuss?

It should say at the link.
