Is it racist to not want an open border?

I believe the ACLU began promoting an open border and has directed liberal policy to that end. I quit for that reason. I do not appreciate congestion that continues to increase. I favor a path to citizenship and other contingency programs, but not fully open borders. I predicted the liberal embrace of open borders would pave the way for a politician to close them, but Trump? Yeesh!

Interestingly enough, the Koch brothers back the libertarian position in favor of open borders.

I vote democrat but I'm not for open borders. Look at what Merkel did to Germany.

The ACLU does Not "promote an open border". Their mission is, and always has been, to bring to court egrigious violations of our laws and specifically the Constitution. Period. You sound like a troll

My thoughts exactly! A white male troll at that

You would be more correct to use Nationalist rather that Racist. Racists hate those of other races, there are plenty of them already inside the country. If you would prefer to not let those from other countries come in then you are a Nationalist. However that is being pedantic about definition. There are no such things as completely open borders and never were. All countries operate an immigration policy, the problem is not about immigration but illegal immigration and should not be conflated. Refugees are another completely different category and again are often confused with immigrants, but these people need our help and any compassionate country should shelter them and offer sanctuary. It us the politicians who whip up this fear of in comers, we have the same problem in the UK. The truth is we need a certain amount of immigrant workers or our economy would suffer, our crops would not be picked and in our case the NHS would collapse.....it just needs to be controlled properly.

The whole problem DOES stem from the American government managing immigration so poorly. There people are running from hell. If Americans found themselves in hell (we ARE in trump hell) and there was a place of safety to run to...we would GO THERE!!! and hopefully would be treated with respect and compassion....not the way WE treat people looking to save their own lives

Hows about stop arguing about who is in and out and try to help other countries get better ...like doing away with the drug war, stop bombing other countries, helping out with famines and other disasters that way unfortunate people won't want to "invade " your country

I read the ACLU's Framework for Immigration Reform and it doesn't list "open border."

That depends. If you're okay with "illegal" immigration from Canada and not Mexico, then yes, it's racist.

It’s a right wing talking point to say that the left want open boards. It’s never been said! The boarders must be and are protected. Trumpski is not looking in the right direction. He gets a rise out of his peeps by talking about a wall that the BP all say they don’t need. People overstaying thier visas is a “yuge” problem that he still hasn’t addressed. He gets an erection from putting children in cages. He’s one sick monster.

Open-border does have a bad sound to it, basically a paradoxical concept. But semantics aside, the term open-border is the functional equivalent of what the ACLU advocates. The ACLU has generally advocated against spending money for border enforcement. The advocacy for the illegal aliens who come in goes to the point of granting amnesty. Functionally, these policies amount to an open-border even though they aren't referenced that way. I question the propriety of the ACLU's level of advocacy. What level of border enforcement would the ACLU support?

The world has an over population problem. I can’t pretend to understand the complexity of immigration and social support systems. But, Canada seems pretty open and has accepted many immigrants fleeing America.

And I also feel there a John Lennon song that addresses this. ?

I have yet to hear anyone say they want an "open" border.

Some degree of immigrant control us necessary, imho, but not the way this administration is going about it.
