I finally blocked someone here, for the first time! is this good or bad? i didn't block the person who called me a liberal piece of crap. i said i would if he came back at me with more insults, but so far he has not. hmm, unless this was the same person... i actually didn't notice! but this one was just SO ridiculous, i HAD to block him. he was ridiculous and obnoxious in two different threads, one about 9/11 (it's all a conspiracy, you know!) and one... i forget now, was he the guy who said there is absolutely no evidence that russia interfered with the 2016 election, and he knew, because he LOOKED for such evidence and found none?
maybe. i forget. anyway, he considered anyone who disagreed with him (including me) to be incapable of logical reasoning, and turned out to have created a number of groups that included a group for liberals who hate democrats and a couple of groups for conservatives. now, how can you be both of those? that seems dishonest to me. it also explained a lot. well, i don't need to deal with folks like that. i'm never going to convince them of anything; they have their own reality. (remind you of anyone? religionists, maybe?) so... first block. do i celebrate? i haven't had lunch or a nap yet. i could celebrate with those!

Given the term this individual used to insult you, you must have run into Trajan?

don't worry; my eyesight is terrible. i am incapable of looking at you wrong 🙂)

While I think we have more fun when we can discuss issues with folk who have different perspectives, this fellow sounded rather hateful..

yeah, different perspectives are one thing. calling names, directly or sneaky-snarkily is quite another. i may say "that's stupid" regarding something someone quotes. i will only say "you're stupid" if it's totally unavoidable, and i wouldn't find it unavoidable if the recipient didn't get personal first.

I think I know who you're talking about. He's a blithering idiot and you're probably better off without him stupiding up your timeline.

maybe the groups i described gave him away. i was kind of trying not to, but it was hard not to mention that and give an honest description of some of what turned me off (after the fact -- i only checked after noting the idiocy of his comments and responses). anyway, yeah, who needs that, right?

You say, “...and turned out to have created a number of groups that included a group for liberals who hate democrats and a couple of groups for conservatives. now, how can you be both of those? that seems dishonest to me. it also explained a lot.

Agreed, and obviously using this site to incite… Thanks for the description, and sorry you felt intimidated to that degree, I know that’s not what this wonderful site’s about ~

lol i am not that easy to intimidate. i didn't block him because he intimidated me. i blocked him because i have better things to do than argue back and forth with the likes of him. i did my bit, mostly for anyone who was lurking. that was enough!

g

Insight or incite? Interesting... slip? 😛

@bingst Fixed ..both thinking, and editing ..I need a raise 😕

i may be about to block another. why do people have to get personal when challenged on an intellectual point? this one wants to redefine words to suit his own message, and what words does he think he is redefining? "god" and "pray." because god doesn't have to mean god, you know. it can mean potato, or a tree, or whatever. and pray doesn't have to be TO someone, except it does, except it doesn't, except it does.... what was the other one? gratitude, which i admit i brought up as an example of a word that has to be TO someone. you can be grateful to a lot of different kinds of people -- it doesn't have to be a god -- but it does have to be to someone! nope, redefine that one too. okay, i am not ranting here because that's what this guys says. i am ranting here because when i disagree with all that, i "must be a lot of fun at parties." in other worse, i don't agree with him so i'm a drag. well, if i am such a drag, i guess he won't mind being blocked.

g

i had to block him. he got a little panty-twisted and all offended that i didn't like it getting personal.

Idon't block-I ignore ignorant thinking people. Not worth arguing with stupid.

I think by definition, an xian who does NOT REJECT HELL THREATS AND HEAVEN BRIBES yet comes in here to make nice with Atheists IS A TROLL.... SAME goes for Catholics who do not fully condmemn 2 living popes for covering up the rape of millions of children and seminarians by thousands of priests......those "babies" must be tossed out with the poison bath water

granted. but christians who are genuinely curious about why someone wouldn't buy into their delusion are not trolls.

g

@genessa I find such "curiosity" condescending and somewhat karma to our obvious condenscending disapproval of their faiths....we are not believers and they are.... it's like straights wanting to ask gays what they do in bed.....knowing is the opposite of believing.... we don't give out prizes or scholarships for coming in here to be "deconverted" .... I have always told callers to my Dial An Atheist line, all 18 thousand of them in 31 months decades ago that Atheism is the result of actually reading the bible like reading any pornographic misogynistic anti-science book of fiction....we don't like the central character the alleged do nothing gawd that allows billions of innocent victims to be harmed and killed....such a monster of fiction DOES NOT EXIST IN REALITY... end if story

@GreenAtheist it usually ends up being condescending, yes. but it doesn't have to be. i try to hope for the best. it doesn't always work out! oh, i don't see it as straights trying to find out what gays do in bed. i mean it can be, but again, it doesn't have to be. it could even be a curiosity born of a feeling that they might want to rethink their religion. i won't assume in advance, even if the odds are not in favor of a good outcome. that's just me, though.

g

@genessa you are describing my campaign trail listening and sharing style.... I never assume a new person I meet is either believer or Atheist.... I don't wave red flags in anyone's faces about theocracy, religion or Atheism....that's good citizenship for all.... I'm an American first and an Atheist 2nd.... Agnostic.com is an affinity group and we deserve our privacy just as most churches should not be assumed to be evil fundies terrorizing women and doctors at abortion clinics.... benefit of the doubt, credit where credit is due.....I'm sure fundies have come and gone from here and went back to their cults and reported how evil we are if not making up more lies out of thin air.... I am also certain we have no single former believer here giving us credit for guiding them out of religious fear into scientific thinking

@GreenAtheist lol probably not... although i am new, so i could be wrong! anyway i just blocked another, ALSO not a troll, and not a religionist, despite his wanting to redefine words that have religious connotations so he can say they really don't (they really do -- see my post about it below). he is offended that i called him out for getting personal. oh, the feels. i might have to faint. or not!

g

p.s. yeah it was a guy. patterns... patterns.... i've heard of male pattern baldness. i am starting to believe in male pattern condescension.

As far as it being good or bad, that's something only you can decide. Sounds like you reacted the same way I might. I don't see much of anything bad in blocking someone. If you're never going to have any common ground to begin with, what it matter if you ever see each other again? You're just fine-tuning your Agnostic experience. Good for you!

Might be worth reporting to @Admin if the person is a troll

UUNJ Level 8 Sep 11, 2018

if we all can support each other on our journey away from theocracy and towards a happy home HERE, then there will be no need to block anyone, but anger directed at kind respectful Atheists of any gender MUST BE BLOCKED ... keep up the good work y'all

i don't know if he's a troll. i think he's an idiot, and not a kindly one, and that was enough for me!

g

@GreenAtheist it's like any other community. there are all kinds of people. true, the site's purpose narrows this down somewhat, but religionists who are respectful are welcome, and some atheists are assholes just like members of any other large group. this particular atheist (he says he is) is an asshole. it happens.

g

@genessa I confess I block most guys just to make room for conversation with Atheist women....so I don't know who this perpetrator is and don't want to know.... I don't start fights with xians, I just keep them out of my viewing space and I don't need to lecture bad boys how to become Feminist men....they can go get their 3 hours of cult support from Ruuuusssssaaaah Dingy Crazy LimpBOSS on their radios every day and share their smug ignorant beliefs promoting poisoning of our holy mother earth and cheering on the war crimes and rape of women and Vatican forcing millions of women to die pregnant without life saving abortions or deadly disease preventing condoms....male entitlement is worse than being an asshole, it is the creedo of enemies to humanity

@GreenAtheist this guy claims to be an atheist. his problem isn't godly delusion. it's conspiracy-theory delusion, on top of which he's a rude jerk. don't worry, i won't tell you his name; i've forgotten it already anyway, though i know what letter it started with and that it was a short name. i guess i have a block list somewhere is i really need to know. but i don't block guys for being guys. i would certainly block one who tried to lord it (oh what a term for an atheist) over women just because he has a y chromosome.

g

@genessa it is a "conspiracy theory" if the proponent expects the new comer to become an instant true believer .... if it's a critical historical report of facts, "he" or "she" needs to be patient and stay on message until historians end the cover up and join the movement for truth telling

@GreenAtheist true enough. in this case, this guy did not display any affinity for critical thinking, nor any knowledge of history. it was no truer than alex jones' assertion that no kids were killed at sandy hook and that all the grieving parents are paid actors. patience won't make THAT one become true, right?

g

@genessa I knew there were false flag loonies out there but I did not know Jones was spewing that kind of insanity.... that alone would justify him from being banned from twitter... I on the other hand know that prosecutors conspired to protect the father of the shooter who shot his teacher gun nut mom before taking out his 14 year old grudges against kids he never knew or the teachers he never knew in his classroom from his kindergarten and 1st grade days.....he(daddy) had a duty to take the guns away from his ex-wife and his insane son wasting thousands of dollars on bullets and guns at the rifle club he paid for.....he's a millionaire General Electric executive and should have been sued for all he was worth by all the parents and spouses of the dead kids and teachers.....the dead mom lived in a 3 million dollar house with her insane son and all that money should go to the victim estates not her normal son big brother to the shooter
