Ok this is coming from a non religious person not steeped in bible things....I but have always been curious as to what the halo around heads is all about.. Is this to do with pagan gods that are backlit with fire to give them an aura of wonderment or is it to show virginity or sacredness...Why a circle or taurus and not a square or a triangle...

It's an artists interpretation of an angel's head beign surrounded by light. Either they (the artists) were too lazy or lacked the skills to make it look like the angels were back lit. So halos were a kind of representation of the idea.

Like most of our Christian traditions, they have their roots in Greek and Roman mythology.

Thanks for that...interesting reading....circles squares and hexagons...who knew...lol

@Dragoria It fascinates me how protective they are of they symbology, never realizing that it comes from paganism, which they so decry.

@Benthoven I think they jumbled it all together just to try and rope everyone together under one big noose...lol

@Dragoria It was deliberate. As Christian Rome expanded, they only way to prevent was the locals from rising up was to combine the local religion with Christianity. This kept the populations from turning on them.

While I don't know , I suspect it was originally artists using back lite by sunlight , to show holiness in their artwork . If you see someone , especially a small child with fluffy hair , when the sun shines through their hair , it's the same general effect . The connotations aare innocence .
