Things have been really tough lately. My brother, who is Christian, was talking about community systems. Mainly how I'm without a social web since I will not join a church.
Oddly, I do feel more isolated. Being in the Bible Belt, it almost focuses church onto your life, or you're ostracised. ?

Dealing with this too. I moved to a new town and without church feeling pretty alone 😟

I still think you're better to be grounded in reality AND living a good life versus not. Perhaps some folks will always value their words as true and some prefer to feed their cognitive bias.

While I agree wholeheartedly, it still hurts to long for that companionship

Seems you have to be level 5 to create a group. I'm only level 3.

Anyone want to create the group?

The irony of his statement, though, is that once you do something that bothers them they will turn on you and ostracize you so you'll end up feeling just the same way. And I'm willing to bet they know that, and live in fear of letting anybody know what's really going on.

That being said, there aren't the social circles we need... and I think that's something we really should start to address together... find ways to provide that connection with each other.

According to Meetup.com, there are some 50 people interested in starting an atheist group in Gas City. Be the first to start the organization. I know Indiana Wesleyan University is just down the block, but that does not mean there are no atheists, humanists or agnostics in town.

That is certainly one of the toughest things about being a non believer; the absence of community and networking that churches offer. Of course those support systems come at a price; you must pledge allegiance to believe the unbelievable.

It looks as though there are 9 members within 12 miles of you. Maybe you could organize a meet? Maybe make a group first, invite them to join, get to know them, then arrange a meet.

You'll have to forgive me, but how do you find the members nearby or make a group?
I haven't been active in a long time. ?
