Jim Morrison or Dylan.

The one whose name people shout all the time, "Ohmygod".

We are all gods and our destiny is of our own making. - Jim Morrison

Morrison was a very smart guy, probably more so than many gave him credit for.

This probably should have been in Silly Random & Fun. But since you put it in Philosophy & Meaning, I'd say this is like asking which kind of ax murder is best, or which kind of rape is best. Gods are asserted without evidence and so everything built on top of that is divorced from reality. On the basis that this tends to lead humans way from any meaningful progress, I'd say they're all bad.

On the other hand [sigh], the symbols around which community can coalesce can arguably be positive even if not reality-based. For example, if you're trying to marry for life, a little bit of idealism is almost necessary; if you don't put your partner into a special category viewed through rose-colored glasses then you will probably be sick of them after 50 years, because the reality is that your partner is not actually that special (or they are special just like everyone is).

There's also for instance the Danish concept of hygge, a nebulous idea of cozy and comfortable conviviality that they value as a people in a way much like Americans claim to value "freedom". Except that unlike the contentiousness that "individual liberty" produces in America, hygge is a significant factor in Danish levels of contentment which result in them being consistently rated "the happiest country on earth". And it's all about lighting with candles and special lamps and valuing certain kinds of socializing, near as I can tell.

So ... while I can't bring myself to say there's a "best" god, I can allow that there are ways in which theism can result in "good feels" for some people some of the time. And so if there's a god of hearth and home and hot coffee and friendship someplace, that would be my pick.

Not sure but I suspect that it must be the 'Oh God!' 🙂

The one that works if you can find one.

I'm partial to the triple moon goddess, maiden, mother, & crone plus the celtic triple aspect goddes of war: Badb, Macha, & Morrigu.

What do you use to base "The Best" ? Individual gods are finicky, but if I was going to go with a pantheon, I'd go Norse.

Any god is bad. Anything that lets us put blame or praise for our actions on a “greater” being is a cop out!

prometheus. however, technically he wasn't a god. he was a titan. he was cool, though -- just as fictional as any of them, but if i can like little oliver twist, i can like prometheus, right?

The one that leaves us alone and never bothers us (the Deist model)? The Universalist (all encompassing) model? The ultimate pacifist (the Quaker or Jain model)? Now, tell me, which God is worst? Let's begin with the Abrahamic religions, and go from there.
