The Vatican never apologized for the Inquisition. Do surviving family members of victims of Inquisition deserve punitive and moral financial compensation from the Vatican?

These are two entirely separate questions, each of which deserves its own poll. That the Vatican, over the centuries, has balked in admitting wrongdoing--even in the case of molesting priests--has become a standard operating procedure for the 'Holy See.' Thus, one should never expect an apology for the Inquisition. That said, any attempt to identify and remunerate descendants at this point, many centuries later, is a fool's errand. It's too late, and time to move on.

Well said. The question was formed in such a manor that I could not vote.

Maybe it is time to apply their own methods to clergy? Just a taste of their own medication.

Sure, but first they should compensate the millions of children they've molested and raped in the past century.

How about disbanding the Catholic church as a pedophile ring, selling off its properties, and paying all their victims in one fell swoop - also preventing further sexual exploitation of minors.

That would be true justice, but the church is politically entrenched, not to mention they have brainwashed hoards still obeying them due to fear of hell, so difficult to do.

Beautiful idea!

The church has tons of money to pass around. So I say bankrupt them (they're already morally bankrupt), close them down and finally bring some peace and justice to this planet.

It's been too long ago for financial compensation, however, an apology would be nice so that we know that the church is aware of its past mistakes and what it intends to do about situations in the future.

They own humankind 1,000 years. Lost under the rule of the Vatican. Screwed up Europe first. Kept going, see South America. A catholic shithole. Now Africa - overpopulated, no industry to speak of, plenty of churches. We need to stop this BS!

@zesty I wholeheartedly agree with you. The church has done significant damage throughout history. However, setting up financial compensation wouldn't do any good. I would want a sincere apology for the church's actions throughout history and openly admit to what they modified in the scriptures to attract followers. If there is any kind of financial activities involved, it would be in Africa. The church has done nothing there but create and cause pain and heartache.

@Captain747ex Not necessary Africa only. Let's make it poor countries. As long as the process fully bankrupts this gang, it if fine. Absolutely out of business!

@zesty It would take an awful lot to bankrupt the catholic church. They have practically the world's supply of gold and thousands of manuscripts that date back to ancient times and who knows what else. They aren't hurting for money in the least.

I was raised Catholic. I agree that an apology would be nice. There are no surviving family members after all this time. The last execution was in 1826. If you mean family descendants, that would number at least the in the millions if not the tens of millions after all these centuries. It started in the 12th century, you know, about 900 years ago. The genealogical research to identify every descendent would be virtually impossible and any compensation would be in the billions, so don't hold your breath.
Oddly, the RCC didn't take over the Inquisition until the 1250s, when inquisitors were generally chosen from members of the Dominican Order, replacing the earlier practice of using local clergy as judges. Believe it or not, the RCC officially took over the Inquisition from the local clergy because the clerical judges were becoming way too zealous, often torturing and executing mere suspects (often it took no more than a rumor) without even the courtesy of a clerical trial.

"virtually impossible" ? A miracle may help! I would like to see the vaticani rats pay hundreds of billions! Once they paid, nuke their tiny kingdom. This is what they all deserve.

But surely they can ask God, I understand he chats to the Pope on a regular basis and is it not written
“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” (Matthew 10:29-31)

So knowing who bonked who to produce who, should be a doddle for him.

Even if the Vatican apologizes, they never really mean it because you know they will do it again.

Yes. Hence the need for financial compensation!
