I've always been a huge fan of "Science" shows, like Bill Nye the science guy, Carl Sagan Cosmos as well as the new version with Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Nova,Mythbusters, and many others.
But my favorites are the ones that cater towards kids.
i love the fact of teaching kids about the Scientific method, and critical thinking.
So I was very happy to learn that Adam Savage started a new version of Mythbusters callec Mythbusters Jr.
He hosts the show, but it's all about kids making, experamenting, and problem solving.
Looking very forward to watching it.
I grew up in Italy. Never watched programs like the ones you guys mention, but in Italy there was such a strong insistence on science and the scientific method both in school and outside. Not sure why.
Despite having the Vatican and the home of the catholic church, Italy is surprisingly against unsubstantiated claims. Must be the Marxist influence from the East of Europe.
It wasn't exactly a science show per se, but my favorite of these was Square One. It was more about math, math tricks, and problem solving. I used to sit, riveted to my seat, hoping for George Frankly and Kate Monday/Pat Tuesday (the latter of which I had a major crush on) on Mathnet to math their way out of some situation. Guess that explains my eventual pure mathematics degree. One thing I forgot until just now is that Mathnet had James Earl Jones as a police captain at one point.
As someone else posted... I loved Mr. Wizard. I love learning how things work and sometimes, making them work for me. I think just about every kid has a natural curiosity about how things work. They just sometimes don't have a creative explanation that holds their attention. Great to see this new show coming out!
I’ve watched all of those and loved them. As a kid, I was interested in how the body works. I don’t know if you remember Mr. Goodbody? I enjoyed his spots in Captain Kangaroo then later on he had his own show
I remember Mr. Wizard.
I am not certain that those experiments in real time, would hold the attention of today's viewers.
Oh yeah, I forgot about that show.
Yes, I used to watch that when I was a kid.
Thanks for reminding me.
@TristanNuvo I Googled him because I could not remember when his show aired and one of the first search results was a YouTube "Mr Wizard is a Dick"
I think it proved the opposite, it showed his ease around children and he didn't talk down to them. And it was really funny.
And the show aired on NBC '51-'65 and Nickelodeon from '83-'90
@BufftonBeotch Oh, I just remember another one that was in the early 90's called Beakmans World. that was a good one as well.
i'm glad they're doing it for kids. myself, i can't watch mythbusters because it's NOISY! it distracts from what they're doing. it would be more exciting if they didn't try to make it exciting, you know? same content but less shouting, less background music, or different music anyway. nothing against it conceptually, just seems they're trying to dumb it down, and it's not dumb. (hmm, it occurs to me that it already plays as if it's for kids, without there being a junior!)
