No, I don't want to keep him. I have 4 dogs of my own and look after other people's dogs as well. I don't need one more.

That's interesting. Were they strays? Stray dogs are not a major issue around here. But farmers let their dogs roam free. Occasionally, some would pass by my place or they get on the roads just hanging out so we all have to be careful driving rural roads. All my dogs are indoors though I live on farmland, and they have a fenced area to go out to. No way would I let them roam free and chance having them hurt by people or wild animals or getting hit by a car on the highway. Most people around here let their cats and dogs roam free but when they run into the highways and get hit, the owners get mad at motorists for not being careful enough.

@graceylou Exactly. It's the same in the hills of eastern Kentucky. Dogs are usually either chained in the backyard or allowed to roam..no neutering, collars, or immunization. Locals who see dogs chasing cattle take care of the problem with their shotguns.

Cats are allowed to run loose and breed at will. Luckily, we had enough coyotes around to help with the cat problem. The local coyotes are a wolf/coyote hybrid that is much larger and more wolf-like than the western poplulation, and more silent.

They sometimes hunt in packs, although where I lived a pair of coyotes were the territory owners.

It’s possible. He lives about a couple of miles away. He was actually trying to dig into my fenced yard (of my business on property).

@Lilac-Jade He has escaped a few times. Last time he killed someone’s chickens so his owners had to pay to replace those chickens. At least I know how to contact the owner if he comes here again.

@Lilac-Jade when I lived in the city I had this cocker spaniel that kept escaping to my house from across the alley. i practically had his owner’s number on speed dial.

@Lilac-Jade One of mine escaped (heavy wind blew my fence gate open; now it has a lock on it) and was out there for 7 hours. It happens. I found her myself though.

@graceylou We've had it happen a few times over the years too. We raised Siberian husky / malemutes, & they love to run.

His people might want to rehome him because he keeps escaping. He’s bored being left alone. Since I already have 4 dogs, I’m not looking to add more.

They keep him outside on a chain. If he were with me he would sleep on my bed like my other dogs.
