Brown shoes with a blue suit? Sorry, I grew up working in a men's clothing business family and, brown shoes with a blue suit have always been taboo. Like sock with sandals...the problem is that people who don't know better...Colbert...athletes...etc. do it on t.v. and the normal joe figures "hey, if they're doing it it must be cool..."

I believe that people should wear whatever they feel comfortable wearing. I do not believe blues and browns look good together in clothing. I will not wear that combination but I also will not look down on people who do wear that combination. I am not here to decide what another person should like or dislike.

Socks without sandals? how could anyone be so insecure to give a shit what others think of their footwear choices.

True, people shouldn't give a shit about what others think about anything...this site is just to give us idiot types something to do 🙂

You should see what judges wear at dog shows. And then you have the $pendy photo to remember the fubar'd outfits and too often heinous facial expressions, while your dog is looking smokin' ??? LMAO

While I would agree that black shoes and belt with a navy suit is appropriate. Black shoes should not be worn with a lighter blue suit. Shoes have become more important to men. My ex had no less than 50 pairs. They like them to be noticed. Keep in mind, there are many shades of brown, the belt and shoes should match.

No rules, wear what you like. Be happy

I think the old rule book was torn up a while ago. I think it looks wrong to wear brown shoes with a navy blue suit, but that is just my age probably. It was very certainly a rule that my husband followed and only ever wore black shoes with navy. However, I believe a lighter shade of blue...what I would call Airforce Blue, looks better with brown rather that black shoes.

it depends on the other appointments. brown shoes with a blue suit and a black tie would be a bit jarring -- not so much that i would consider banning or censuring someone for arranging that, but just not coordinated. brown shoes with a blue suit and a brown tie and hankie, sure! or no tie, and a brown leather wrist band.

That is very interesting! I don't know much about men's fashion. Since brown is the natural color of leather, I saw brown shoes as neutral, like a brown leather belt...that they could go with any color clothing. Does your rule also apply to women's outfits?

Are men supposed to wear shoes that match their suits then?

Women in my experience do whatever they want...for instance red shoes just for kicks...but yes, in the men's wear business men are supposed to wear shoes that match the suit
