What a Fucking Mess! ....to put it delicately. What we are seeing in this whole issue is largely due, not to migrants breaking the law, but to the immigration laws being broken/messed up.

They remain broken, with no political solution in sight, in my opinion, because of America's deeply entrenched history of both racism and a deep streak of isolationism. This is, by no means the whole country. Some of us "Globalists," to re-claim Trump's nasty dog whistle term, understand that people are people and deserve basic dignity and opportunity, and that America in many ways enjoys great benefits and advantages, but that in no way makes us individually superior to non-Americans. (We've totally squandered many of those advantages, but that's another discussion.)

Since when is arrogance and bigotry a virtue? The "Deplorables" sneer at us for having a heart. Ironically, many many of those same Deplorables claim to be followers of Jesus, that character depicted by New Testament story tellers. Whether real or fable, his ascribed teachings were generally quite positive and virtually the exact opposite of what we are seeing from the White Evangelicals that comprise the bulk of Trump's foot soldier minions. I am continually amazed at the human capacity for holding contradictory beliefs.

I think it is a mistake to equate all people who want to see our immigration laws enforced with members of, or sympathizers with, the KKK. Sure, there is some overlap, but I lumping them ALL together just ignores a lot of important nuance and sows division. As liberals we stand for diversity AND rule of law.
