My wife, Anna is a K-5 special education, bi-lingual teacher. She has a BA, MBA, teaching credentials, special-education certification, and bi-lingual qualification. However, she spends many hours doing things not related to teaching, paperwork. Thus, she is stopped by the school system from providing quality education, because she must do the paperwork. Teaching is secondary.

For many years, Federal Regulations are forcing teachers to not teach; thus, degrading our educational system. Nominally works 7:30 till 3:30, but gets up at 5am to get to school on time, and usually works till 5 or 6 pm, which is 12 or 13 hours of effort. Then, she spends some nights and weekends doing paperwork so she can spend more time with her children, actually teaching. She spends 60-80 hours a week, and feels the children are suffering. Test scores show it. But, the answer is not to pay corporations to teach our children; they expect profits and don't care about the children. The answer is to hire more teachers and provide the funds necessary for educators to do the job right.

Politicians are being paid to strip schools of their capability to educate properly. Then, their donors expect them to sell the idea of using corporate schools, which with limited funds can do no better than our current schools system. If we give in an let the corporations run the school system, they will be given tax breaks and fat contracts to do a bad job of educating our children. Don't fall for it.

REpublicans do not care about education. When our town replaced the rep they gave the teachers a 10% raise provided money for paper pens chemicals removed the students payment to play sports replaced the superintendent plus voted to build a new school. The following year they hired thirteen new teachers and reinstated the art and music departments. This all cost a 1.25 % increase in taxes and was welcomed by the town which had voted republican for almost 10 years. The democrats won by very high percentage and it looks like the town will be voting Dem for a long while.

Good to hear. TY

You are right. They want a stupid uneducated population that they can manipulate.

I am not a special educator, but was housed in a special education cooperative for 10 years. Unfortunately, under the beureucracy sset up under PL 94-142, excessive paperwork is the norm and has been for years.

Let’s hope that our Education System, does not deteriorate further! I really believe the GOP, could care less about education, they want people to be on the ignorant side! My neighbor back in Ga, who teaches Spanish at the High School kept saying that she hopes she can make it, to retirement, because it is so stressful! And, I cannot think of a more important profession than a good teacher!

It's a hard job at K-5, and I hear HS is terrible. Teachers must do it as a calling; the money doesn't call them.

@EdEarl for sure!!!

Thumbs up to your wife for hanging in there. Thank you.

There is so much propaganda that gets accepted by people with no consideration. It's a standard tactic used to blame those who have no real voice. Also to appeal to fear and base emotions rather than reason. You point out the fallacy of charter schools. There are lots of other arguments of the right easily fall apart with a small amount of thought.

not ALL politicians. republican politicians, yep, and the head of all of them is a nonteacher (and pretty uneducated person, come to think of it), a trump appointee named betsy devos, who wants to end public education and make all education private and christian.

yes

Mrs Magoo. She brings out the hate. So glad I have no children in school.

@kltuckmn alas, the children in her schools will grow up with that brainwashed smile she sports. i hate ALL of trump's appointees but she was the one about whom i chose to make an impeachment petition (which went nowhere). she scares me.

@genessa I agree! DeVos is a Religious zealot, coupled with elitism! Great choice for teacher and child...NOT! I am so sorry you failed to get her removed! I wouldn’t recommend her for dog training!

I have not heard this before, but it really does not surprize me.

Since the supreme court allowed corporations to donate unlimited $ to PACs, Federal politicians are assured to become multimillionaires if they do what the corporations want. In addition, there are rich criminals who donate to PACs, too. The system is rigged to keep most people poor and under control of the rich.

@EdEarl The Democrats generally have more money than the republicans as they get a lot of union money. Hell the teachers unions always support the democrats. If they ban money from Corporations they should also ban union money as both tend to influence legislation heavily.

@Trajan61 Of course. Reagan busted the unions. The powerful ones, like the UAW are no longer powerful. I seriously doubt the Democrats get more PAC money than the Republicans, because money gets votes and the Dems are not winning as many votes as the Pubs. Do you have evidence? It doesn't matter anyway. Big money should not affect politics.

@Trajan61 Get real The koch brothers put $800 million into this election, add the Duponts,Rockafellers and other members of this club and they raised more money than one can shake a stick at.

@Marine You are out of touch with reality. Hillary Clinton has quite a bit more money than Trump in 2016. Beta O Rourke had about 3 times more money for his senate campaign than Ted Cruz. If you don’t believe me just google it.

@Trajan61 If they had not produced more money we would have an all democrat government today

@Marine The Democrats seem to want a socialist dictatorship.

@Trajan61 If you understood the term socialist you would realise your statement is an oxymoron
