I really wish that I had at least one Atheist friend here in Bethel Alaska. Just one would be awesome. Everyone I know is a Christian.

There must be others but in a small community it is not easy being different.

I moved into this apartment complex in Ellensburg just over 4 years ago, I made no secret about being agnostic. Frankly, I think it's worse to not be a republican.

So, far there is only one snarky bitch who feels the need to denigrate my non belief. I refuse to debate her, that makes her angry also because she MUST have the last word before she storms away. LOL

ND is not much better. I know only a few as most have long ago left the state.

Same here, an atheist in a super religious cloistered community. Even has a religious themed town name like you, Church Hill, featuring a completely self contained list of its attractions. I at least have roads to elsewhere but can't afford to do much travelling nonetheless, so doesnt do me much good.

And Christians claim they are persecuted in this country. It would be amusing if it weren't so sickening.

I'm surprised anyone lives in Alaska.

I'm in the same boat, atheists are not exactly thick on the ground here in Ireland. Interesting name for your town, it means "house of god " .

I have no atheist friends either, but it doesn’t stop me having a wide circle of them. I have never had a religion, and most people do belong to some religion or other, so if I’d restricted my friendships to those who didn’t believe, I would be pretty friendless. My friends all know that I don’t believe in god, we just respect each other’s views and never really talk about religion....there are plenty other topics out there.

Happy to report that I have done my part to break the circle. All my kids grownups now are free thinkers by choice.

There will be others there but you just have not met them yet. Even amongst the so called christians there will be atheists. A lot of people are afraid to let others know and they hide behind something or other to fit in.

Bethel has about 6,000 residents and no connecting roads to any other town, just an airport. As such, everyone will be up in each other's business and I don't think it'd be easy to flush out other closeted atheists and then expect them to trust you. But you're right, there are a few of them just the same, even if they can't admit it to themselves (much less others).

@mordant It takes one drop to start a puddle.

I have no other atheists near me, that I'm aware of.
Which is precisely why I have sought community here.
I can't spend all my time being pissed off that I'm surrounded by religutards that have no interest in logic or reason.

I feel ya

Too bad you're so far away from Fairbanks. I know a few nice atheists there.

Years ago there were many in Talkeetna as well. Many of the residents were from Springfield Massachusetts!

Sorry to hear that no atheist is near you!

i am sorry you have it so rough. some of the meme, by the way, is true, and some of it is not. i've seen this meme a million times and it's not mostly ABOUT the where you're born in most cases (in countries with official religions, yeah, but not others). it's about your families, and in today's mobile world, and with home schooling and charter schools, that can be anywhere. but yeah, to the rest of it.
