Yes, but they are ambush predators. their lunge isn't very far.
If you escape that you are fine. they will just go back into the water and wait for the next thing to come by.
Then again, their lunge is very fast.

Bloody smart, cluey animals the old Aussie Saltwater Crocs, I've actually witnessed one, about 4.5 metres long, come up vertically out of the water and snatch a pelican as flew above it.
