WTF? The "Wild West Cometh!" Will people who make dynamite be next? [msn.com]
I'm not into guns any longer but I used to be damned good with single action western revolvers in the 1970's. I would not turn down the gift this company offers. You can't carry a handgun at my work but I've been in line at Walmart checking out talking to a man who had a glock strapped on his hip. Missouri is now open carry but you don't see guns every day.
Oh well, you could always just sell the gun, I guess. I really don't get the American gun thing, and I've owned to of them in the past. Sold them when I moved to Sydney 'cause range fees were ridiculous.
The tone of your post indicates that your emotions have precedent over logic. It was in fact, an insignificant event...will not likely have any measurable effect upon shooting statistics given the number of guns already in civilian hands. You seem to see a mountain where there is a molehill. Nevertheless, if you would like to post a disimpassioned assessment or statement supporting gun control, I would be happy to debate you.
I only allude to the fact that everywhere there's mass fear that an active shooter will appear and that they should be prepared for it. Why not give everybody a gun?
Thats odd and completely useless for the paranoid thinking that motivated it, but it is a pretty nice bonus gift lol. Are they suggesting the employees should all open carry in a glass factory though? Thats the stupidest strategy Ive heard since arming teachers.
I agree that arming teachers would not likely be effective as well as being problematic, pronouncing it as "stupid" and leaving it at that does nothing to inform what is wrong with it or what the problems with it could be.
@dahermit agreed but the assignment wasnt to explain whats wrong with it, and Im at work. the most concise elaboration I can offer for now is: Ive seen teachers try to operate overhead projectors. If someone can't imagine whats wrong with it and what the problems are Im not really interested in being their educator at the moment.
@Wurlitzer As a former teacher, long retired, who is also a long-time (tens of thousands of rounds) firearm enthusiast, I have many objections to arming teachers. One thing that has irked me is that I have spent thousands of dollars and years developing my firearm skills and nowhere has anyone suggested that teachers such as myself who already have the specialized gun handling skill, should be paid for those skills...they expect me (if I was still a teacher), to perform that duty for free!? No way...hazard pay or get someone else to do it. Aside from that, an armed teacher is not an armed guard...and armed guard can be suitable vigilant, whereas a teacher cannot be expected to be as vigilant and be a teacher at the same time. As much as I hate platitudes, "You can only have one master."
