What do you mean? That money could go to all trumps buddies who for sure have something better to do with it, like put it off shore taking it out of the economy.

Given that the evidence for agent orange causing problems is as contentious the evidence for glysophosate giving that groundskeeper his alleged problems, then I see this less as a vote against veterans and more as a vote for science.

In effect, only those problems listed as "Sufficient Evidence of an Association" in table S-1 should be given compensation and not a blanket compensation to all people exposed.

[source: Veterans and Agent Orange: Update 2014. (summary) [ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] ]

To further clarify, a quote from the summary regarding table S-1

The conclusions are related to the associations between exposure and outcomes in human populations, not to the likelihood that any individual's health problem is associated with or caused by the herbicides in question.

What about the Vietnamese? Shouldn't the Americans be on the streets demanding that the US bankrupts itself if needed to pay reparations?

We bomb the crap out of a place and then fix it up.This is stupid.

@Marine Did you really write that? Your country committed grotesque war crimes and have never even apologised never mind reparated those you devastated. And Kissinger walks NY's streets a free man.

Every generation has a duty to recognise the crimes of their forebears, reparate and commit to doing better.

It is really not surprising that Americans are hated so widely. And yet - despite people like you - there are loads of lovely Americans with compassion, intelligence, education, knowledge, and shame of what they are associated with. Thankfully.

@OwlInASack Their are many who were not reimbursed for the stupid use of chemicals and they should have been so. However I am not aware of any country that has made attemps to reimburse anyone in a war zone except the USA. Germany had to pay reparations that were imposed upon them. Russia,Japan have escaped reps for the most part. The Colonial powers never paid any reps. As for being hated tough, In many situations we installed a more stable government where the people were not able to do so. Latin and South America have had many of these and I took part in several of them. No thanks was ever extended that should have been. In a nutshell war is hell andmany hardships that result were not the result of our being there. As for Vietnam Iraq, we should not have been there at all.Don't blame the troops blaime the leadership that was placed there by votes.

@Marine DING DING DING GOAL POST MOVE ALERT GOAL POST MOVE ALERT.

Their are many who were not reimbursed for the stupid use of chemicals and they should have been so.

I've no idea if that's true or not - but who cares? America's crimes are there for them to deal with, without reference to anyone else.

The Colonial powers never paid any reps.

And? Clearly they should and I argue strongly with my own government to do so. Doesn't excuse you for the crime of burning the innocent. Definitely doesn't let you off for excusing it either. Where's your humanity?

As for being hated tough, In many situations we installed a more stable government where the people were not able to do so. Latin and South America have had many of these and I took part in several of them. No thanks was ever extended that should have been.

Well fuck me. So you're proud of the crimes you participated in? The installation of fascism through Latin America? The brutal extermination of left wing governments for flagrantly commercial reasons? While apparently spreading 'democracy' as you destroyed it? The installation and support of brutal dictators? Who the fuck made you the arbiter of other countries? I could not despise you more.

Don't blame the troops

That was a straw man till you last posted. Now I blame the troops.

They only care that there are enough to send somewhere they want. Their kids are not in the service but in some fancy school .

These folks on here that are always espousing about the time and energy wasted on hate. Go fuck yourselves. If you don't hate these Republicans and their heartless behavior, there is something seriously wrong with you.

I was looking for a source that shows how each Senator voted, but can't seem to find it. Mostly wanted to see how Collins voted.

They NEVER want to pay the people whose lives they destroy. Agent orange has killed more Vietnam veterans than the military cares to tell us, and these so called representatives of the people just keep taking care of the corporations that fuck us all! VOTE ALL REPUBS OUT OF OFFICE!

My father died from exposure to Agent Orange...he served 30 years in the Army...my mother got nothing...He did receive the best care at Walter Reed and a military burial, but even after boxes of paper work filed by doctors, etc.,...nothing.

@thinktwice my father got some compensation back in the early 80's when some lawsuit went thru and got a check for something like 20 thousand dollars. He was Air Force and flew in the planes that showered that shit on everything. I guess he was able to show the dates and times he was exposed to it and got a settlement. I know that was the sticking point for a lot of Veterans. They couldn't prove when they were exposed.

@Redheadedgammy We had dates, times, written witness statements, etc. He was on the ground...what we did get was life insurance proceeds that were set up at no cost for those exposed...I believe it amounted to about that much...a pittance compared to the sacrifices made.

@thinktwice those in Washington, many who never served themselves, never pay any price for their behavior of indifference toward the men and women who gave their lives for this Country.

Nope, they care only for themselves and their cronies.

Too true. Not so much "self help" as "help-self"
