METOO is profitable: "Dushku was paid $9.5 million in a secret settlement" for hurt feelings.
This is shit. No where near rape. No where near harassment. They should not have paid.
"""
Weatherly apologized for his alleged conduct, saying, "During the course of taping our show, I made some jokes mocking some lines in the script. When Eliza told me that she wasn’t comfortable with my language and attempt at humor, I was mortified to have offended her and immediately apologized. """

Jacar I notice you make some very provocative posts and statements. I also notice you use an avatar and do not put a picture of your face up here. Is there a connection here and you don't wish to be identified?

He didn’t make jokes about a line in the script. He made comments about her appearance, threesomes and rape jokes. It’s a clear harassment case. If you’re unclear on that you could try that out on a woman at your place of employment as an experiment. I know at mine, you’d get canned.

He claims it was one time. He says it was in reference to the script.

why is it so many want to not believe him?

@Jacar it’s not about believing him. He publicly apologized for it. Those types of things are not ever to be said at a work place. It’s just not that complicated.

@Jacar you said "why is it so many want to not believe him?"

The reason is because so many of us have been on the receiving end of these comments that make us feel uncomfortable and vulnerable. The trouble with you is you don't want to even TRY to understand how demeaning it makes us feel. How dare you! YOu have NO fckin idea.

@jacar. I take great offense to you setting the bar at rape. According to you, since she wasn't raped, she had no reason to complain about any other behavior. And since she couldnt take a joke, and did complain, it was ok that she lost her job. THAT is what the CBS settlement was for.

I did not set the bar at rape. But this comes nowhere near the bar of reason.

Please don't write stuff like "according to you." It always clarifies that a person is attempting a straw man argument

She lost this job. She was not under a 4 year contract. She has been very successful as an actress for years.

She got the money to keep her quiet. That was wrong for everyone.

@maturin1919 . . ""I take great offense to you setting the bar at rape. According to you, since she wasn't raped, she had no reason to complain about any other behavior.""

I did not anywhere suggest that since she was not raped,.... She presented a conclusion that was not in evidence. That is the straw man.

@jacar You most certainly did! Your original post brings it up, and your first response to me said "This was not rape."

@Jacar

Do you really call yourself a feminist? Come on into this century.

4

It was what she should have made for the rest of the show. Employers do that often when they let someone go for a reason they know isn't exactly right.

and, how people get paid to stop their shit from interfering with business.

0

This kind of shit interferes with all the really legitimate claims of such behavior.
To automatically assume a man is guilty is stoopidly bad for all of us. Especially those who have actual reasons to feel uncomfortable.
She has been in the industry for years. And she chose this moment for being uncomfortable. Total crap.

Do you actually give a shit about the real claims at all? Or is this just a convenient argument for your MRA anti-feminist crap?

Seems like all the dudes that spew the false rape claims garbage like to make this argument

There should be no legitimate claims! Men have brought this on themselves. And it's not over any time soon.

@Wildflower I agree. so it is important we get this right. Accusations have to be substantive. "Uncomfortable" after one incident that was apologized for from a person not known to be an ass.
We have to be careful. Lives depend upon this. Women's lives.

@Jacar "uncomfortable" is harrassment. You're a man and obviously have no empathy.

@Jacar and you have nothing to do with getting this right. You're either part of the solution or part of the problem. Which is it?

@PolyComrade thank you.

@Wildflower . . . very old slogan. Very 60's of you.
And i told you. we must stop reacting to perceived slights that are only in the brain of the "victim."

@Wildflower, @CoastRiderBill . . Really? This is all about "crying wolf" when none exists. And then when it arrives, no one listens because of all the distractions that came before.

@CoastRiderBill, @Wildflower Uncomfortable is NOT harassment. That is wrong in a multitude of ways.
One joke is enough to get millions? We are in deep shit with that kind of thinking.

@CoastRiderBill . . it was not harassment. it was a one time joke.

""Harassment covers a wide range of behaviors of an nature. It is commonly understood as behavior that disturbs or upsets, and it is characteristically REPETITIVE. In the legal sense, it is behavior that appears to be disturbing or threatening.""

@CoastRiderBill I'm afraid it can't be sexism. It doesn't work that way, men have power. I'm sorry that you were abused, as I was as a child. Men do not know how women have been abused historically and how it effects their ability to live and make a living.

@Jacar "behavior that appears to be disturbing and threatening". Hmmm.

@Jacar you are not worth any more of my time or energy.

To me this was another example of someone getting all offended for nothing. And, as expected, "he is guilty be he is guilty."

This is an example of how looney this has become. One joke in context and she feels uncomfortable.

This was not harassment.

Last year Morgan Freeman got blamed because a woman said he leered at her. REALLY! we've come this far into the mud?

As my wife has been saying: "Grow the fuck up."

Her run on the show was ruined because she wasn't comfortable with his douchy behavior.
I guess you'd be ok being run off your job after being made the butt of jokes being reduced to "pieces & parts"?
We could have all sorts of "fun" dreaming up scenarios of this being reversed, but since this too often happens to women they're shamed for having any sort of taking exception to how they're treated on the job.

She was 86'd badly, affecting her career, over a guy whose tone you've no clue about. He also seemed to be rubbing her face in being written off by inviting her to the champagne party.
For 9 million, someone, somewhere fucked up badly in this day and age of post torte reform.

@Qualia . . his explanation is credible. He has no known history of being an ass. Look at who is defending him.

You need to grow the fuck up... and come into this century.

@Wildflower . . We know some of the women abused by Nassar. We know many rape victims. This payoff does damage to the reality of what these people have been through.

At 66 years, I am not ignorant about these issues.

To just decide that all men are shits does damage to all of us. Especially women who have legitimate claims.

@jorj you really don't want to challenge me. This point made by, what? 2 little men?, has no chance.

@jorj, @Jacar one of you is old one of you is young. Neither of you has a clue.

@jorj There is a good argument for this stance but nothing speaks louder than money to these production companies. If it had gone to court, the actor would've got a slap on the wrist. But what is needed is for this whole sexist culture to be addressed. Now if companies know they will have to fork out money to complainants then they will be more likely to ensure such instances are nipped in the bud. They will set in place sexual harassment workplace policies.

@jorj I don't think you understand how it feels to be sexualised and laughed about, had parts of your body groped by someone bigger and stronger than you. In the back of a woman's mind there is ALWAYS the fear men's physical strength could overcome you. There is always a fear of rape.

Yes i know all about 'men's jokes'. When I was young it was the norm at the office to be told 'gee nice legs, bum. " can i play with your tits?' (this was said while other males laughed uproariously). I was shy kid and hated any sort of attention. This stuff had me in tears. And contrary to your opinion, it wouldn't have mattered if it had been Leonardo DCap. I would not have welcomed this from ANYONE and neither do other women. Believe it or not this is NOT the way to pick up females. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect. I left this job knowing that there was recourse for me. MY boss would've said exactly what you say 'oh it's just a joke'. 'THe boys are only kidding. It's harmless'. Well it didn't feel harmless to me. I wished i was bat shit ugly.

@jorj I begin to think you must be on the spectrum. Not because you have a different viewpoint but because you are so lacking in empathy. I guess you can't help that.

@jorj 'a great movement' You have learned NOTHING. Not a damn thing from the comments of all these women here or the original article itself. You don't get it, even the fundamentals. Feminism is about equal opportunity.(For all). It is not about women being men or lifting the same weight as the average man can. It is about being treated fairly and respectfully. I'm wasting my breath. Your ears are closed. You are part of the problem. I've had my say. I refuse to give this post anymore of my attention. You and Jaycar can keep beating your chests but I've had quite enough of this dribble.

2

I'm torn with this. On one hand, knowing who Michael Wheatherly played on NCIS, this type of behavior does not surprise me. Yes, he is no longer on that show, but to play that type of person for so long (in my opinion) would have rubbed off on him. If he stopped and apologized immediately, that should have been the end of it.

On the other hand, if it came to where she was paid 9.5 MILLION, something else must have happened. You don't just pay someone that amount of money for nothing.

Weatherly has no history of complaints.

@jorj Explain comical. None of the MeToo cases were comical to me, and NONE that I've seen have been about power unless you're talking about taking power away from men. You can ask just about any woman if they have ever been sexually harassed or assaulted, and I can pretty much guarantee the majority (if not all) of them will say yes.

Women should be able to go about their day (whether it's work, shopping, or just being themselves) without having to worry about unwarranted comments or inappropriate touching from men. It's about time men are held accountable for their actions.

@kiramea . . . "Morgan Freeman leered at me." Yeah that sounds like legitimate grounds for a complaint.

And, most of the women quoted in the article about Morgan said after publication that they were mis-quoted.

That type of shit does not help with real complaints that need investigation.

. . Moonves was involved. and he had plenty to hide.

@Jacar if men weren't real cause for sexual harrassment suits then there would be no need for this conversation. You're just not going to win on this. Resign... let it go.

@Wildflower . . do some research. Women do harass, men and women.

And, oh yeah, about 30% of sexual assaults reported are against men. This is not a one-way street.

We have to be clear that something rises above the random misunderstanding.

2

If they paid, they were guilty! Period.
They avoided a boatload of bad publicity with that payment, because they all come with a non-disclosure clause.

She was in the right place at the right time.

"If they paid, they were guilty! Period." bad assumption.
I really don't want you on my jury. 😉

@Jacar Ummm, because if innocent, they would just "donate" big $$$.
FIRING (which is why they would have lost in court!) a whistleblower is a Federal Offense..you think we should not encourage whistleblowers, in every area?.

1

Putting the Male spin on things I see.

Putting the reality spin on it.

She felt offended for one incident, reacting to jokes from someone known to not do shit.

4

You're not telling the whole story ... she was fired after she complained. The settlement was what CBS determined she would have earned for four seasons.

She was not paid for hurt feelings.

All because she did not understand the joke.

This was not rape.

@jacar This from the self-proclaimed advocate of women's rights.

@GinaKay . . I am an original feminist, from the 60's.

@Jacar You seem to be trying to suggest that the only "legitimate" form of harassment/injury women can experience is full-blown rape. This confuses me.

@pashaonenine . . .i am not trying to suggest that.
METOO majorly started with Harvey Weinstein. He was a rapist.
It has now gotten to the point of absurdity.

"He leered at me so he should be punished." This is beyond safe for any of us.

@pashaonenine, @CoastRiderBill . . .weatherly admitted it was a joke in context with the silliness of the script. One time. And he responded appropriately. If there was a legitimate complaint she should have gone public.
She got paid to be silent, to avoid appearances. this should not happen.

@Jacar you are NOT going to win this one. Better to bow your head and concede now.

@Jacar And you thinking "leering" should be a thing because..........???!
