I just went back to reading a newspaper (on-line, very cheap too)
Reading news allows me to pause, reflect, digest....."does this gib with what I know?"
All news has bias, because it is produced by humans.
When you watch/listen to news you cannot Think fully about it because you must listen for the next word(s).
Also, coupons.......
You might find this interesting. This is home to a media bias chart.

Interesting! The ones chump hates most are right in the middle...oh, well, HMIM
That is the reason why I only READ the news, and only from three sources - AlJazeera, BBC, and Rueters. From these three I can usually get a full and accurate picture of US news, as well as lots of info hidden/not reported from the rest of the world (typically about shit the USA is doing).
Tv news also is in continual fear that you may not be entertained and thus turn the channel, so they talk as fast as they possibly can. I'm also getting annoyed with those human interest pieces at the end of CBS news. Generally the CBS Evening News is still pretty solid, but ending with puppies or kittens...or children saving puppies or kittens doesn't seem, well, newsworthy.
It sells though. I worked for an actual newspaper and the stands sold out on days with cat or dog stories (way over kids).
@RavenCT Exactly. But is the value of news the news, or money from entertainment? We used to recognize that there was value in things like truth, facts, news, values, etc. Now everything has to be distilled down to money or nothing, which unfortunately has led to many misinformed or uninformed "news" consumers.
