Cartoon: 'Unlikable'

By Jen Sorensen

"There was a debate last week over the suggestion that Elizabeth Warren may face the same "likability" issues as Hillary Clinton. I would argue that the idea of "likability" for a female candidate is problematic, as it fails to address the very real social context in which female authority figures are seen as less likable than their male peers. This piece on NBC does a pretty good job of explaining the issue.

Regarding Warren, I'd suggest that the fair question to ask is not "Is she likable?" but rather, "Can America overcome its sexism and anti-intellectualism enough to vote for her?" I wish I could confidently say yes, but I'm not so sure, despite the success of female candidates in the midterms. The authoritarian wave sweeping the world is very much a reassertion of traditional ideas about masculinity. I say all of this as a big fan of Elizabeth Warren, who has always felt like an alter ego if Iā€™d gone to law school. I even dressed up as her for Halloween once."

I am a democrat and to me EW is not likely to win a presidential bid because she is to radical as is Bernie. Their views are to far left to be accepted.

And yet in polls people in the US want candidates just like Bernie. You know the ones who care about all the people who don't want to go and invade other countries in the pretext of bringing democracy to them, the ones who want to tighten guns laws, etc, etc. Maybe deep down you are not a democrat but really a republican.

I am also concerned that Bernie(BS?) might have been a few steps to far left to win the general (especially with the rural lean of our electoral college). But he was and is popular. We might want to find a more centrist left candidate. Could EW be a starting point?

Majority of Democrats Want Candidates to Be More Like Bernie Sanders, Poll Finds

A full 57 percent of Democratic respondents said "more like Bernie Sanders" in response. Sixteen percent said less while 27 percent responded "not sure." Not surprisingly, Sanders was less popular with conservatives. Only 13 percent of Republicans said they wanted candidates to be more like Sanders, while 74 percent said less. Independents were split. Twenty-seven percent said more like Sanders, while 35 percent said less, and 38 percent said "not sure."

@Jolanta Never a republican as I care for people they do notr.
