It is interesting that age plays such a great role in compatibility as aging is such a new thing for me. I always thought that mind seeks mind in affinity and compatibility but the matches, regardless of all other things being perfectly matched, seems to be a deciding factor here. I have friends of all ages and I base my desire to interact with the other 15 factors and not just age. I find my spirit quickened by the enthusiasm and eagerness of youthful thinking people. It is probably only natural for people to stereotype based on age, alas.

That's a first, can't find anything annoying to say...….I guess I am getting too old 🙂

People stereotype about many things, not just age. Many are not comfortable unless they can categorize others. Put them in a labeled box. Define reasons for them being how they are.
One of my favorite things is breaking through such narrow minded thinking .

@Nihil thanks !

When I was 39 My partner and I broke up, she was 45, we had two kids. When I was 44, I married a 27 year old. I just stopped dating a 64 year old because she said she was over sex and didn't have those hormones any more. I had sex last night with a 60 year old friend. It's not easy to predict attraction, it varies widely. We all just need to open our minds and hearts.

Ageism is a fact of life.
We do lose relevance in old age.
Some of the rich old & powerful just can't go gracefully into that goodnight.
They are the old evil bastards always starting wars in which they send the young to die.

My ex was 6 years younger than me, but might as well have been 108 years old.....

I am not here to find a match...but as far as interacting with others, I find all ages are compatible with me as far as ideas and musical choices are concerned. In fact I would go as far as saying I have no idea how old most of the people who seem in sync with my views and tastes are, I very rarely think about it or bother to find out.

I get this. I am constantly told that I look like I'm in my mid-thirties. I'm genuinely thankful for those assumptions, however my CORE (I don't like to use the word 'soul' except with music) has had a pretty well-weathered and gravelly road. Plenty of scars and hard lessons for my physical age.

(Besides, I let the kid inside me out to play and enjoy cartoons and ice cream and being goofy in public. It throws people off the trail of my real age)

I think it's just human nature.
Once our youth is gone, most of us crave to get it back, in all manner of ways.

@PalacinkyPDX Yeah, well. Most of my responses to people's posts aren't what they intended to hear. That's why I get blocked. 😉

I want to be in my prime again but until someone invents time travel or some elixir that restores youth, I have no means of accomplishing it. I'm not doing the stupid shit I see some people do like plastic surgery or anti-aging creams, or whatever acts of desperation people fall for that do nothing.

@Sgt_Spanky "Acts of desperation" are precisely what I'm talking about.
Accept reality.
The biggest reality being that, younger people generally are not attracted to older people. Another fact of human nature.

@KKGator Yup. Once you hit 50, unless one is rich and famous, you're put into the bargain bin of life. It's just an unfortunate fact of reality that I'm still learning to cope with.

@Nihil I never said yours wasn't a legitimate post. I just commented on the topic in general.

I think having a common experience to draw from is a contributing factor. Someone who is twenty years younger or twenty years older is not going to have those same milestones at roughly the same age as me.

I've always been attracted to much older men. I'm always intrigued by the lives they've lived. The thought of dating anyone my age or younger makes me want to vomit.

Any younger than fifty years old ain't happening. I'm sorry. That's just me.

At the risk of making an inappropriate comment for a site like this, bless you.

@Nihil there's gotta be a problem with the site. I've never set my age preference that young!

My ex boyfriend was 25 years younger than me. I look younger than most women my age and always have. Have dated younger up to now. Met Our_existance, my Dan here and he's 2 years older than me. We are very compatible and can share our lives together.

@Nihil don't think we would have enough in common. We are both very sexually active. 20 years older I doubt it.

Men always find a reason to pursue younger women.

Not always. I have met men who like older women.

@Jolanta Yeah for a lot of the same reasons. Men in their 50s and 60s who pursue women their own age are practically unicorns.

@Stepmomofdragons IKR? I was in my late 40s when some guy in his 60s told me he'd make me "feel like a kid again." I remember thinking oh FFS.

I was in my early 50s when I looked into this singles social events thing only to find out that the maximum age for women was 50 and the maximum age for men was 65! I sent them an email about it and they told me to sign up for their "Boy Toy parties." gag

Now that I think about it, I joined AtheistPersonals.net awhile back and paid for a membership but when I did a search for men in my age range looking for women in my age range, THERE WEREN'T ANY. I requested a refund and got a very nice email and an immediate refund from the owner who was very apologetic.

@Deiter Whoa buddy, that's a seriously nihilistic perspective. Everything OK?
It's not lost on me the original poster's username is "nihil."
Personally, I'm perfectly fine with my age and people my age.

@DeStijl I guess I'm a unicorn. The longer I am on Match, the more it seems like the site is running out of women in my desired age group, so I keep getting sent Daily Matches lists of profiles that are women I have already been sent before. I am 60 and open to dating women as young as 50, but that is really meaningless as very few women that young have profiles with dating ranges that include my age. I am willing to date up to and including 68, but won't go above that because I was widowed two years ago and don't want to risk that again anytime soon with too old of a partner.

On Match, at least in my area, the vast majority of women age 51-55 will only date older men who are no more than a few years older than them, so for all effective purposes, I only have women in their late 50s for the low end of my dating age range. So I am largely in the same boat as you, DS. Met only 5 women in 15 months on Match and they were all in their early or mid-60s, which is probably the only age group that I will find anyone in to date, which would be fine with me. Match seems to be running short of women who are in their mid to late 60s, so if I don't find someone there in the next year, I will probably switch to a site that specializes in older people like Silver Singles or Our Time.

@Deiter You asked who wants that so I responded that I have no problem with being 58, nearly 59. I do not know why men get older and start looking for younger women. Googling it returns many thousands of results. This article is interesting--- [theoutline.com]

@Deiter I hope your fortunes change and you can find your way back to a positive outlook. I use this illustration as an avatar because an artist drew it for me and I think it's fun. I have a pic or two on my profile. Wishing you the best...
