I'm so excited that I just had to make a big ass post about it.

I found 3 first cousins, a second cousin on the other side and an uncle I didn't even know about.
I paid for the membership to ancestry and the first person I contacted just happened to be online and we messaged all damn day. I have been in contact with 2 others today as well. Most were on the side I thought I already knew well but finding an uncle and the kids of an an aunt I never knew about is astounding.

The first lives a few miles from me. Nearly all of them are within a few hours of me.

I grew up with no extended family and a very dysfunctional nuclear family.

Now that I have confirmed relatives on each side, I can finally start narrowing down which side is which and perhaps find that sibling.

Been doing the mental happy dance all day.

I did the same thing. My family is huge, Irish, and catholic. They practiced Vatican roulette and had lots and lots of children. My family tree has literally hundreds when both sides are included. What a trip!

Fuck, my family bored me to death with their genealogical history of every and any people who were related to us all the way back to royalty in the old country all the way back to the XV century. I pass!!!

Im not interested in the ancient history at this time but rather wish to connect with real live relatives.

But when I am ready, I'm sure someone will have figured it all out.

Good for you. My mother refuses to say who father was. She didn't even tell her parents who or how.

My mothers birth mother steadfastly refused to name my mother's father. I have a theory based on some of the connections but with so many holes, I may never find out who that was.

This all started because I have at least one unknown sibling and was trying to find him or her

That's great! I've been (half-heartedly) looking for a half sister but have done most of my research via Google. I hope you get to spend a lot of time with your new found relatives. This is also a great way to share stories/tales about family. I know when I get together with my cousins, we always find something about my grandparents, aunts and uncles, etc that we weren't aware of.

Ive spent most of the last two days talking with the one that lives nearest me. She is also pretty experienced at using GEDmatch and is doing some of the research for me.

So surreal and exciting
