Do you back Trump on the government shutdown or not?
I personally do NOT! I think the wall (even if not impenetrable) is actually a good idea, although it seems it'd be easier to employ more staff to secure the southern border.
My levels of incredulity & disbelief continue to escalate as the days of the current administration pass. Our commander-in-chief says that he's "proud" that the government is in shutdown status. Guess that means he's proud of taking food from the plates of the eight-hundred-thousand government employees & their families. He couldn't care less about anyone or anything but himself - "the wall" is his little pet project & he'd rather see the citizenry go without a paycheck than to admit any sort of defeat (although his promise to have Mexico pay for the wall has already been defeated). What's more amazing is that his backers are incapable of recognizing The President's narcissistic personality disorder, & they're still backing him. Yipe

At this point 85% do not support Trump on the government shutdown & 15% do support him

Not only do I not support trump's wall but I believe it is a pathetic attempt to build a permanent monument to glorify himself. If he got it, he'd probably attempt to put his name on it in three-foot high gold letters. We need much more border security but it must be flexible and target the real drug entry points which already have fencing. Most is coming in in cars and trucks with false bottoms. Most illegal illegals here come into the on a legal visa and simple overstay it's legal duration.

You've got mighty good points there!

This wall is not and will never be a GOOD idea.. anyone that’s been to Texas can tell you that. Most of the land along the border is privately owned. Litigation is still pending from 2006 when Dubya took land from folks. 45 was told last week in Texas a wall is unnecessary... not to mention that estimates put it between 35-70 billion dollars with 150 million in maintenance per year.

Yup.....think increased personnel at the border would be a big help

People just ignore me as if I said nothing whenever I bring this point up

@Lucy_Fehr the uninformed rethuglians and mostly northern ones that have never seen the border have this magical 5 billion in their head. That will barely get the project off the ground. It’s interesting our republican governor and senators are very quiet on this issue. They know it’ll never work here. Will Hurd the republican congressman along the border has been very vocal about about it not being an option.

@Lucy_Fehr Gosh, the same happens to me!

@Lucy_Fehr, @Green_eyes I've read esitmates of 30 to 40 billion(?)

His useless vanity project is seriously harming people, their families, and their local
economies.

All it takes is one.
Just one.

And the sad part is that neither Trump nor the Republican party are aware of it. And even if they were aware of it, they likely wouldn't care.

@Lucky57 Oh, they're aware. They do not care.

I believe that our american government is a complete sham. Both parties are so extreme that they can't do anything but argue and fight. In every election you get a choice of who is the lesser of the two evils.

Yup - this last election was never a better demonstration of choosing between the lesser of two evils. But, to me, it was purty obvious that Trump was the bigger. & while the country is suffering because of him, am glad to see him digging himself deeper & deeper.

I don't find the left/Democrats extreme at all. They would be pretty middle of the road in most of Europe.

The Libertarians are socially liberal and fiscally conservative....and believe in individual rights and freedoms. We do have choices other than the Ds and Rs. But, until people start to reject the two main parties en masse, we will always have "the lesser of two evils" issue.

@Carin While it'd be nice to have more than two serious parties in the U.S., we can be glad that we don't have 30+ like in such countries as Hungary. It's insane there.

@Lucky57 What we need, and aren't likely to get as long as Citizens United (poorly named for sure) continues funneling billions to both the Ds and Rs, is four or five viable parties with candidates offering real choices. I'm an independent and while I lean towards liberal causes, I often go the other way also. The lesser of two evils remains evil.

@Grayghost Agreed. But how to come up with four or five VIABLE parties? Those little pipsqueaks on the side now have no chance against the Ds & Rs.

I do not support the wall, but even if I did, a government shutdown is not the way to get it done. I have written my congressional leaders (both senators and my rep) to voice my disapproval.

Good for you!!!!

Unless you can put a "wall" down the center of the Rio Grand, it is pointless.

Any wall will not be completely 100% impenetrable.....that's why I like the idea of stepping up the personnel

3

All trump cares about is having the fight over the wall and to be seen having a fight over it. It's about the gratification he gets from his base. A wall is a bad and unworkable idea. It's geographically, ecologically terrible.

Yup!
