This last week Avon apologized for an ad shaming cellulite. They made a makeup to hide cellulite and it is an ad saying cellulite is ugly. Ok, isn't everything Avon makes an attempt to hide flaws? Don't they make women feel bad about their bodies so they can sell the fix?

The ad wording was "dimples are cute on your face, not on your thighs". They apologized and agreed to remove future advertising. I have dimples on my face and on my thighs...its NOT cute on my thighs. I get the overall message from everyone about the shaming but feel the need to say I wasn't offended by this particular ad's verbiage.

Sounds like you are corporate shaming.

I saw a documentary about Cuba not that long ago. It was about how people felt about their bodies and because there is no advertising, both women and men were very positive at how they looked, no matter how skinny, fat or ugly. That tell one how much advertising is destroying our confidences.

Sounds like they have boxed themselves into a logical corner that's impossible to get out of.

Yup. It's funny how some would complain about that but not face makeup or butt hole bleaching. I'm not sure that last bit is an Avon product but if they know what's good for them they should penetrate that market to the hilt. It's a thing. ?

Butthole bleaching? o_o Wtf? Why?!

i don't wear makeup. nobody is perfect and i don't see why anyone should buy into the concept of physical perfection, but that's not why i don't wear makeup. i think makeup makes women look phony, and i don't think it makes women attractive at all, but both men and women buy into that concept of what is pretty, what is beautiful, even what is acceptable -- but that's not the only reason i don't wear makeup. i don't wear makeup because it's icky and sticky and i would feel like a clown if i wore it.

yep. never wear makeup. who is to decide what a flaw is and why should I spend all that money to meet that standard?
