What an amazing article! I had no idea the early white feminists had close Native American friends, or really that there was so much interaction between the races at that time. Thanks so much for sharing. It took a while to read, but well worth it!

not only did early whit feminists have close dealings with native woman, it is where many of their ideas on feminism came from. Our culture had always been about a balance, balance of power between men and woman.

I agree about the anti-feminism feeling--I would widen that to an anti-woman feeling some days.

Interesting article. The idea that feminism could at least have been influenced by native culture does make sense.

yes of course

Our entire government is based on the Haudenosaunee or Iroquois, 5 nations method of governance. Women were the Congress & attended large gatherings in order to solve problems.

🙂 yes .. I"m glad that you are so informed.

@AmmaRE007 Thank you

Just want to say re your post.....I have not detected any anti-feminist feeling except for a few consistently right-wing dickwads. I find most of the men on here amazingly enlightened, and most of the women too!
Thanx for the article!

It's argueably the single most debilitating aspect of modern society. As a culture we are hugely retarded by our failure to recognize the power of women.

That was interesting. It's not that woman could rise in the hierarchy but at least they weren't freely abused. I'm sick of feminism. It's a while since it had anything to do with equality. Judging by what I read these days, there isn't even equality among the feminists themselves. They seem to have distanced themselves from Jewish women and allied with Linda Sarsour.

You need to read some more stuff...from the very beginning the "feminists" have allied themselves with women who can wear nice suits to work. Those of us getting "men's jobs", like in construction, and finally earning good money plus benefits, changing the unions, the bathrooms, the working conditions, have Always been ignored, even scorned, by the "ladies"
And yet, I am so strong for the rights of Everyone, maybe in spite of "traditional feminism"

@AnneWimsey That's for your patronising comment. I didn't want to cut and paste the history of the women's movement.

@brentan what, exactly, is "patronizing" about me telling the actual history of MY working life??? Like, one of the first 4 women to get hired to do hands-on building of nuclear subs in 1973? First woman to graduate the EB/GD/ IAM Apprentice Program? Become a Union Trustee (elected!)? And etc.....your ASSumptions are appalling!

@AnneWimsey You're incapable of making a comment that isn't snarkey or demeaning. I was quite content that our paths didn't cross. Let's get back to that.

@brentan just wow...again, sharing my actual life is "patronizing", telling you more is"snarky"????
Another old white guy with antagonism towards women who actually do things, obviously. Too bad, sosad.....

@AnneWimsey Let's hope that's the end of you.

@brentan "let's hope..."???? Maybe you should be evaluated about your imaginary friend(s)??????

@AnneWimsey Oops, you're still here. Still nasty. Go away.
