Is there a love song that taps that deep part of your nature? This is my favorite love song, and I am not even ‘in love!’

Generally no. I think they cheapen it or make me feel like crap because I can't relate to their interpretation of what love looks like.
My mom told me she thought of her and my dad in this song when he was away in prison. I'm glad it's not popular because it's very powerful to me and I'm generally a crying mess by the end.

Against all odds, we’re are own door prize!

Sweet...’real life,’ really is grounded in reality! I find that I am not just listening to words, I am connected to all the notes play!!!

To me, this song captures a love that’s lasted throughout the couple’s lifetime.

Sweet, sweet!

A song that has had no personal significance for me is Ewan McColl's song "The First Time That I Ever Saw Your Face" written in 1957 or 58 when he was smitten by a very young Peggy Seeger.
I have just scrolled through video track after track of the song's covers by the Who's Who of the 1970s and 1980's superstars. Now I understand why Ewan liked the song's success and in a way, it is the measure of a folk song.

Here is Peggy Seeger singing the song written about her:

I had never heard this rendition before, but it just so happens that this song was popular when I fell hopelessly in love, with a disaster in the making! Lol It is still a favorite, even with the memories!

@Freedompath I have heard Ewan sing his song but cannot find a copy. Peggy of course was his muse for the song. I used to see Ewan and Peggy three or four times a year at my local folk club which was probably before the royalties really started to pour in for the song

@Freedompath Ewan was also partially responsible for the BBC Radio Ballads of the early 60s late 50s. They changed broadcasting attitudes and highlighted many social aspects of British life that many did not want revealing. They are still available on CD and in my opinion well worth listening to. In fact I've just checked YouTube and most can be heard in YouTube by entering in the search box "radio ballads ewan maccoll"
Here's Ewan sing "the Shoals of Herring" the video is worth watching for the great photos showing the size of the fleet in just one of the fishing ports. These were all closed down when the UK joined the EEC.

@FrayedBear Roberta Flack, sang that song, back when I had died and gone to heaven in love...no thought of the danger that lie ahead! I don’t know if she is still around, but it was beautiful!!!

@Freedompath you can watch RF singing "1st Time..." on Youtube.

@FrayedBear I so-o loved that!!!!

@Freedompath Ewan McGill although of Scottish heritage was a Lancashire lad born in Salford. Here to complete our thread for others enjoyment is RF singing EMcC "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face".

@FrayedBear it is still a beautiful love song...but I find a tear still comes up! Thanks! It’s kinda nice to remember where we have been...

This one, that as far my personal definitions is about love not passion. It is not being romantic, it's about the day to day, and building a life in common.

Wow! That song will jar you out of your comfort zone! It is powerful! I kept having the feeling that this songs comes...after we have spent a ‘time in the dark night of the soul!’

@Freedompath look the same music but with the chorus in the mother language of the band

@Pedrohbds I am always fascinated with foreign languages in songs! And, I know none! What else that I find interesting is these voices sound a lot like Cher!

This is probably mine 🙂

Ironically, this song was playing in the background as my ex and I signed our divorce papers.

Ageless!

@Haemish1 letting go can be loving...

Just reminds me of the love between my parents. I miss my Mum so much and I think their 40 years together, despite a lot of woes, was a testament to true love.

Beautiful! ❤

Unchained melody as done in "Ghost", the potters wheel, the sexiest scene ever and showing no sex.

To be honest...that is what i enjoy!

Great question. There’s a lot of love songs that are greatly worded but two that really stand out for me for their profundity are as follows.

Peter Gabriel, In Your Eyes. The line “the grand facade so soon will burn” is giving one of the greatest compliments that can be given. He’s saying that when he sees her eyes all the pretenses he puts on for the world will disappear and he can be his true self. One of the best attributes of love imo.

The Little River Band, Reminescing. The singer is so enraptured by this woman he wants them grow old and have memories of their life together. It’s a bit convoluted but the song is about what he wants to happen as well as what just happened. Lines like “I wanna make you understand, I’m talking about a lifetime plan” tell the tale well.

A ‘for real,’ love songs!

In Your Eyes is one of my favorites, too.
Higher Love by Steve Winwood is another.

Love Song, by The Damned.

Oh.... you mean actual love songs about love and stuff.

  • Don’t Want To Wait Anymore, by The Tubes

  • Searching For A Heart, by Warren Zevon

  • You Didn’t Have To Be So Nice, by The Loving Spoonful

  • The Air That I Breathe, by The Hollies

  • She’s Always A Woman To Me, by Billy Joel

  • Under The Milkyway, by The Church

  • Be My Number Two, by Joe Jackson

  • Into My Arms, by Nick Cave

  • Hope I Don’t Fall In Love With You, by Tom Waits

  • Loving Arms, by Darden Smith

Well, now there is a bunch of good ones, too! But, I have noticed that over the years, there will be one special song that just takes me!
