I don't Demand, Request or Wish that Americans learn Spanish but having lived in 3 European Countries I like their ability to learn their Neighbors Language. They have to in School. A European once told me "It is an Inbreed Trait not being able to speak a second language"... As Bilingual I just wonder sometimes...

Years ago another language was required study in middle school. They were always Euro centric. It is indicative of the decline in America for the value of learning, that we do not require it. I enjoy other languages & attempt to learn basics such as "please & thank you". The bigots I have encountered who say "This is America. Speak English" I respond, "This is a free country. Speak any language you want." The Koreans I worked with expressed their gratitude. Then there is " America has many languages. Learn another one."

It used to be a sign of a good education to speak more than one language...and yes, so many Europeans speak not only English, but French, Dutch, etc. It was required in our school, which is why I learned Spanish and English...our school was bilingual with teachers speaking both plus maybe some French thrown in as well...

I don't think we should disrespect those who don't, but why put down those who do? It is fun to share the languages...we have so many too choose now...

I am guessing the singer in your link is not going to be very popular with more cultured people anyway...his loss, not theirs...

I heard your German Too....

I always feel stupid over there for that very reason. My mom could have raised me bilingually but for some reason felt that it was not a good thing to do.

Don't feel bad... Many Latinos felt that they were doing their children a favor and thus the Hispanic was Created. Another ameriKKKa Invention. It is not your Fault. Those europeans they all speak English, their own country language, their neighbors, all their neighbors and still find time to learn spanish... because it is Pretty!!! But that will be unamerican in ameriKKKa.

@GipsyOfNewSpain So many of the languages are similar...I don't speak Italian but I understand a lot because of Spanish...even some Portuguese can be understood...I just can't get Chinese or Vietnamese...I am taking a course and failing in Chinese...it is tough

@thinktwice Oh... the Romance Tongues!!!!! French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian... all with Latin Root!!!

@GipsyOfNewSpain lol yes...thank goodness I took Latin in high school...it helped more than most of the other courses!
