I've been anti-Valentine's day for about 10 years now.... I honestly have not liked anyone enough in a while.

It looks like I'm participating this year and I'm not feeling cynical about it. I could use some ideas for a long distance relationship VDay gift?

What are you getting your significant other? Anyone else in a LDR or previous LDR gift that you loved?

If you're not sure what to do, then it is possible that your LDR has similar feelings. My 2 cents: talk it over and decide together. It is not about Valentine's Day -- it is about you and your LDR. Best wishes.

LDRs do not work.

@mofo1953 not what I asked...

@Sirena regardless of what you asked or not, I posted my experience and I can definitely say without a doubt that LTRs DO NOT WORK

Both of you could buy one of the mutual masturbation machines. It like vibrates your partner in the rhythm that you masturbate too. It might be expensive but it been out a while so maybe the price point is down.

Make him a special card, bake him something homemade, set a Valentine's Day time to FaceTime and most of all enjoy the feelings all that gives you.

My sig other is the one who bought me chocolates, roses, and took me to dinner..and in my case, my special present was a day of birding along a remote mountain top flyway. Anything I gave a man was a handmade card, and only in response to his gifts, given first.

Of course women are free to act like males and pursue men with gifts, cards, flowers, and some men are femme enough not to run for the hills then women become the aggressors. I used to do that, due to my high testosterone levels, and the men would always start back-pedaling.

I'm making a snarky little crosstitch of an inside joke for my guy. We are both a little strapped for cash and agreed on handmade gifts for Valentine's day.

wow. i've been anti-valentine's day, even when i was in a relationship. i agree with @gooniesnvrdie comment... it's impersonal buying flowers and chocolate because the day on the calendar is decorated with hearts. (i understand i am cynical and probably dead inside.)

having said that, i'm intrigued what turned your feeling about being anti-valentine's day to pro-celebrate??

I became cynical with my ex.. our "began dating date" was the 16th. We celebrated just our anniversary and Vday all in one. Then he sucked. Not going into details.

I think between being in LDR and being with someone who is actually romantic (something that took some adjusting on my end), I'd like to go the extra mile. But I don't want to send chocolates and flowers either. That's why I wanted ideas... it's like I'm brand new at this now.

I wish I had someone special to spoil this Valentine's Day. Personally, men deserve to be spoiled on any occasion. Valentine's Day, especially.

•Harry & David has an assortment of gourmet chocolates, wine, baked goods, etc.

•Crate & Barrel has cute gift baskets. They can put your gift to him in an ammo can, so creative!

I'm a romantic and I'm not always a traditionalist. I love giving men in my life flowers, love notes, random 'Just Because' gifts, etc.

Make a handmade gift. A picture frame, a card, homemade cookies.

For the men who I've been lucky to have in my life, I've gone as far as hiring a mariachi band at our dinner table and once outside his house (Father's Day for one guy, birthday for another).

The last guy I dated, on Valentine's Day; I hired an opera singer (my beautiful Korean friend named Gina) to go to his job where he is a professor at a university here in Texas. She sang 'Caro Nome' by Verdi.

I wish you well. LDR suck because you can't physically hold or be with the person you care about. Patience, love, and time can conquer the distance in due time.

You're very sweet ?

Thanks for the ideas.

In the UK we have a "just eat" app that you can order fast food and get it delivered to your or someone else's door. Perhaps you could get the same meal for you both and then eat it together but apart. Via video call of course.

This is an original idea.

@Emerald the Titanic was an original idea

@CallMeDave No it had a sister ship called the Olympic

I was effectively single for four years until recently.

Always give yourself time first.

The strange thing about LDRs that some may not feel like LDRs when they may be sometimes. Some days it can take twenty minutes to get there but most days because of traffic, it can take an hoir.

I know what I am getting mine and I am not telling.

I'm in a similar conundrum. Instead of showing the tickets to the Daily show and a visit to NYC on Xmas, maybe I could have waited. ? I couldn't wait.
