It simultaneously cracks me up and makes me want humanity to end at the same time.
Post-Oscar's reactions in my neck of the woods:
Celebrities: be a good person.
Trumpeters: I AM SO SICK OF YOU CELEBRITIES USING AWARDS TO SPEW YOUR LIBERAL PROPAGANDA!
At the same time, I understand the basis for the underlying anger: it's easy to stand on a soapbox if one is rich. It is one thing for a rich person to preach, "we should share our meals" when the rich person would never have to worry about when the next meal would come from. When the working people feel that their resources are dwindling, they are tempted to find the rich people who are matter of fact about their wealth more to their liking, rather then the rich but preachy types.
The whole ambiance and decoration of these "award shows" are filled with the symbol of wealth and decadence. I personally do not watch them because it makes me puke, no matter what they say. The empathy for the pain of the disenfrenchized is better expressed if one is not wearing a glittering gown that costs more than the whole month's salary of a working person.
Well said. The Oscars is the ultimate expression of the stereotypical limo liberal rep of Hollywood. Notice how the Hollywood liberals will never say anything against corporate power or wealth inequality? With the exception of maybe Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon, but to me they are not mere liberals but more true progressives or socialists in their views, which made them pariahs in Hollywood.
