@zesty A human invaded it's territory. A human CLIMBED OVER the barricade. She got what her actions dictated. How about a compromise? Find out the age of the jaguar. Determine how much longer it will live. Get the average cost of admission to the zoo, and figure 10% of that could be applicable to the great cats exhibit. Determine the cost over the rest of the animal's lifetime, and fine her that amount.

Oh! FEMALE jaguar. She can breed. So take whatever that fine is, and multiply it ....

You know what, forget all that. Your basic premise is flawed on two levels.
First, taste of human blood. Yes, due to a higher salt content an animal can develop a taste for human flesh. But it isn't a one shot deal! Like any other behavior, it's a learned thing.

Second, "One doesn't deserve to die for a simple stupid action!"
Are you kidding me??! If you are stupid enough to climb into an enclosure with a wild animal, yes, you ARE too stupid to live.

What really gets me is people keep doing stupid shit like this. Almost every day there's another news article of people trying to take a picture with, or pet, some wild animal. We need more zoos like this one, and less people like you that will justify a person's stupid actions, while acting on what could be considered a cliche.

@zesty Another thing. You're a hunter. Yippie skippie. Tell me you're a bow hunter and I might be impressed. But saying you're a hunter, and using that to validate the human blood remark. Do you have any kind of background, or degree, in anything animal related? Something more than "I'm a hunter".

I completely agree about the jaguar. Often, despite it being 100% the humans fault, if an animal attacks somebody, the animal gets put down. That's why I say she should be put down. In her 30's, climbs over a barrier to take a selfie with a wild cat. Fortunately she's admitted, in writing, it's her fault, so good luck with any lawsuit.

@James00346 And the final result of this will probably be putting up more barriers and having the zoo put safety concerns before the experience of just watching behavior at a respectful distance. It all boils down to "We can't have nice things"...somebody has to ruin it for the rest of us...those of us who know how to behave and simply enjoy the experience that zoos have the capacity to provide. And not all zoos are created equally of course. The standards of care and 'display' (for lack of a better word!) can be so different from place to place. I feel very conflicted about zoos as it is.
