Kissing Professional Women Rant...

I was watching the news and in one clip they showed Trump kissing Pelosi on the cheek. WTF? I've seen this with others as well. Why is this shit still done. You know damn good and well she doesn't want that maggot kissing her. We need to take kissing women out of professional life. It's a continued distinction between professionals and professional women.

You don't see men kissing men (not in our country, some foreign countries do as that's their culture) but kissing women is still done? No. Stop it. We will always be seen as "women in the workplace" instead of co-workers until we get treated as any co-worker.

My 2 cents.

A nasty way of "dominating"...if she flinches or avoids, some will say she is cold or impolite. If she apparently allows it, some will say she is weak or compliant. Either way, when that fathead decides to invade your space, you are doomed.

It works both ways though. I don't like kissing strangers and people I don't know well. Yet so often I meet women for the first time, go forward to shake hands and get offered a cheek. Not one of life's big worries but annoying sometimes, since you then feel you have already made a commitment to a level of friendship before you really know them.

Well, I am not so sure I agree there. I like the southern European way of people greeting each other kissing on the cheek twice or sometimes three times, depending on how well you know that person.

I fully agree.

I agree. What if Pelosi just said quietly "please do not kiss me?"

  1. Too little too latr.
  2. When has fathead drumpy ever cared about what somebody else wanted/needed/preferred?

Ugh.

I never moved in circles that involved formalized kissing. It's alien to me.

I'm pretty sure it's confined to high-level politics and executive suite-level stuff, unless it's also partly a regional thing.

It's one of the reasons I always confined myself to small to medium sized, and mostly privately owned, client companies. Things get weird in the upper echelons.

I'm sure that weirdos like Trump love formal kissing, it's a power-play and a chance to cop a feel sometimes, doubtless.

I’m guessing at least partly he does it because he knows she hates it.

Trump's past practice has been to grab 'em by their private parts, so he probably let her off easy...for him.

Customs are strange, regardless of their origin.
I don't like kissing anyone but my wife. So I don't.

What's your view then of Joe Biden's behavior towards ladies in the workplace?

I would love for her to say to him, one more time and I will kiss you - with my knee to your groin!

Its been my experience that it is the woman who initiates the formal kissing, not typically me, unless I know it is expected.

Depends on culture, of course. In Kenya I would shake hands. Only female relatives would get a token kiss. In Spain, I shake the hand of a man professionally, or give a token, contactless kiss to either cheek of a woman. To close friends, male or female, it often tends to be an asexual hugging embrace.

@mzbehavin Definitely equal in law. Their social equality depends on their particular society. Mothers used to bring up their sons to believe they were God's gift to womankind. Nowadays, that is fading as arrogant, "macho" men find themselves rudely awakened. There are, obviously, issues but in politics women are at the forefront in certain areas, such as in some corruption cases!
In general, the older the woman, the less likely she is to be equal in the eyes of her society. However, in law she has equal rights, as many an arrogant old boy has discovered to his cost, both financially and in "street cred" to his peers.

@mzbehavin Here, I am often the one "going along with it", I can assure you. The woman would feel insulted if I didn't respond to her. It's all to do with cultural attitude.
In the old days, in Kenya, the early settlers were shocked when the local Kikuyu spat on them, thinking it was an insult. To the Kikuyu, it was the highest honour he could bestow. It showed that the person trusted you so much that you were given a part of the person's body. Had you meant the person harm, you could have taken it to a witch doctor and had a spell put upon the owner of the spittle.
An extreme example, but cultural attitude is important. In the US cultural attitudes have been seriously affected by social media and political correctness fanatics.

I'm not saying I agree or disagree, but why do you not see it as cultural in the U.S.? You said it's cultural in other countries for men to kiss other men like men kiss women in the U.S. So why isn't it just cultural and not some either blatant or subconscious put down for women?

@mzbehavin You're free to interpret it that way, but I don't think most of the world sees it that way. It's mainly just a way to greet people. It happens all over the world. It's not about discrimination or superiority or submissiveness or "where your place is", etc. Not one place does it say it originated or turned into a way to put down women.

I don't like greeting with cheek kissing unless it's family, but I don't think there is some deeper meaning to it. Most of the time it's women family kissing me on the cheek. To us, it's just a greeting. It didn't start with America either and it varies greatly depending on the country/culture.

Having said that, I don't think it's appropriate in a professional setting. I'm sure many men and women feel the same. It can just be awkward depending on what each individual believes and yes it can be uncomfortable. It's better to just keep it at a handshake as to not make anyone feel uncomfortable.

I absolutely agree.

if she had less class than she does, she might have responded by patting him on the crotch. with her fist. with a knife in it.
