The "perks" of growing old..... If I evercise then it hurts like hell....if I don't then I feel like crap !!!!!... What a hell !!! ??

I'm 65. I agree... Old age is not for sissies. Just keep thinking about doing what you want or need to do.

Gyms can do a lot of harm, remember they are a business trying to sell a product, and nobody ever got rich by trying to sell less of their product. They will always try to give you more exercise than is good for you, BECAUSE YOU ARE PAYING THEM FOR IT.

Have an active life and get a garden or a horse, or help someone else with theirs.

I can't exercise until it hurts like hell. Takes to long to recover and even longer to get back in the gym. 🙂

At 62 this inert couch potato decided to take up with a personal trainer once a week with a program of 150 minutes of cardio in the intervening days. He's this guy who could bench press twice my weight, and he's big on stretching. He always spends the last 10 minutes of our session twisting me in pretzels. That's actually the hardest part. My body was incredibly tight at first. But this is important to minimize discomfort and improve recovery times.

Long story short, because I was in such terrible shape, it was a hellscape of misery the first couple of weeks but has improved rapidly.

I have joint damage from a long bout of Lyme disease in my past; I don't think I'll ever be pain-free. But the pain from exercise can be greatly mitigated. The whole "no pain, no gain" thing is true so far as it goes but if you can't find a sweet spot where you get something positive from exercise then you're probably getting bad advice on how to approach it. Probably from a friend with a higher pain threshold and/or better endorphin responses. Everyone's different.

Also I get a kick out of my trainer because as we go through the gym doing our thing he sees so much cringe-inducing bad form. He tells me people are just hurting themselves because they don't know what they're doing. Especially weight lifters, but really, most people are either not challenging themselves enough in the right ways or are actually inflicting injuries on themselves. It's an effort for a professional not to intervene and correct people.

If you aren't much of a gym rat like me and can afford it I highly recommend at least a few weeks with a good trainer to show you the ropes and establish a routine that works for you. If they're a good trainer they will listen without judgment and work out something where you can experience small successes and be motivated.

i have a mini-trampoline (rebounder) on which i jog in place while holding a 10 lb weight in each hand. 10 lbs isn't much but the effect of resistance & push actually increases it considerably. i think it helps b/c i still get the golf ball out far enough to reach most par 4s.
sometimes i just listen to some music & do some semi-spastic moves to the music.

Is evercise anything like jazzercise?

So many questions.
If you can talk that much while exercising, are you really working out that hard? Shouldn't she be out of breath if she's really working out?
No one put their hair up to workout?
The hairstyles. Just the hair 'styles'?
Was what she was saying considered humor by 80's housewives?

@joeymf86 I used to exercise to those kinds of videos. I think that I would have found her too annoying though.

@Tooreen that's my dilemma, if I Doolittle hurts and if I Donuttin then I feel worse !! No kidding ( F-ing diabetes is the key in this discussion )

@Tooreen Few years ago, it's great exercise easy on my bonds but no membership to any pool at this moment..... Sucks

Pilates, Tai Chi ?

Refuse to accept Tai Chi is the option left.... I'll probably drop dead while trying to run

@IamNobody I have tried both and like yoga which I used to practice most classes are dominated by women. I found Pilates good for back pain but I couldn't get the hang of Tai Chi.The movements were too subtle for me.

I refuse to go gently in to the good night and will rage against the dying of the light until the very end,

I walk.cycle and attend my local gym regularly. I would not recommend running unless you have been doing it all your life. It puts a strain on the joints.

I have started attending a structured exercise class as I find it difficult to motivate myself in the gym.

Again it is dominated by middle aged and elderly women. One old lady is aged 94 !!

What is it with guys. They are either being macho men in the gym or are total couch potatoes'

Good luck and there is always ibuprofen for the pain 😉

Group exercise is the key. Exercising alone can be difficult.

I do and I don't but I have not gotten to take advantage of that "fucked" part you mentioned.
