I am deeply troubled by the virulent efforts of the anti abortionist movement to criminalise women and medical practitioners who would engage in abortions. They are proposing the death penalty for both in Texas. I hope the people will stand up and defeat this legislative agenda.

"Life is sacred, so kill those who don't respect it!"

Think about how women in Texas feel......knowing the politics in this state, its hard to tell how this will turn out. ...would not have believed that cruz would get re-elected...but.....many Texas women are just too indoctrinated in religion.

Draconian laws in an equally Draconian Religiously indoctrinated State and Country in my opinion.
A woman has the ONLY right to decide what happens within and to her body, it IS her body, her property, it belongs to her and to NO-ONE else.

I have read The Handmaid's Tale and also seen the movie. When it comes to restricting abortion, men should have no say whatsoever in it. They are not the ones who have to experience pregnancy, birth, or live with the raising of the child should the father choose to walk away, tho the man would still be financially responsible, which only provides more incentive for men to support abortion rights or stay out of the debate.

They sure love their guns and death penalty in Texas. The only civilized place I would live in or visit is Austin. If Texas ever threatens again to secede from the US, I hope the prez and congress take them up on it....

My parents both abandoned me as a child. Mixed race and probably culturally unacceptable by both sides. Mum was Christian and father was Muslim. I grew up pretty rough in London during a very openly racist time yet with all that against me here I am and grateful I was allowed to live. I guess what I'm saying is that we have to give life a chance and I have to take that stance because of who I am. I'm pretty sure I could have easily been aborted.

I get that some situations might seem bleak but no one has the right to decide that an innocent child should not exist. Fuck that.

If a life is conceived give it a chance even if it's left somewhere with a note attached or handed over for adoption or foster.

No to death penalty and no to abortion.

If you had been aborted you wouldn't know anything about it so it's fallacious to imagine you would have been worse off. If you think of all the spermatazoa and ova that never meet it doesn't constitute an army of people who have been cheated of their lives.

@Gareth abortions are about spermatozoa and ova that meet and create life that’s unwanted for whatever reason. As Dawkins put it the odds of ever existing at all are so tremendous that we must celebrate life for what it is. Thanks for your opinion anyway.

You are not alone in your concerns.

1

It is really nuts. So nonsensical that you would think it would never happen... but then last election results were rather startling too

3

I ignore them, just like they ignore children in foster care.

I hope so as well. Such legislation comes about when you have religion in your politics and all it does is make criminals out of normal people. This in no way stops abortion and does tremendous harm to women's health issues. Nonsense liked this happens when people assume that abortion is birth control, which it is not.

Texas is a pure hell hole for women, the poor, the elderly, black and brown people and children. I am only here because my children and grandchildren are here. That may be changing in the not to distant future though.....

@linxminx When I first moved down here in 1982, things were not as bad as they have become. I left for a few years in 2004 and came back in 2011 and could not believe how bad things had become in the state. I truly detest living here and am looking for other areas of the Country to move to. I would miss my grand kids terribly but my peace of mind is at stake. As soon as my probate is done and I can sell my house I am out of here.

@linxminx, @PalacinkyPDX Perfect!! And oh so true.
