lmao

If you think of it as 5 divided by nothing, then the 5 is not divided so the answer is 5. Mathematically 0 cannot act as a divisor.....if memory serves correctly.

Nope "undefined"... I looked it up of course.

...I think it’s still 5.. And 5 X 0 is 0… A better question may have been ..when (outside of school) did I last need to know that.. if ever? 🙂

Some of us do need to know that, usually in STEM fields. LOL

This is what happens when you attempt such witch craft.

I didn't come here to do math.

Waaaaaah

If you believe Douglas Adams, any number divided by zero equals infinity.

And what's the Ultimate Answer?

@RavenCT 42!

A sign that I won't be following your posts. Which is a shame, because apparently we have 95% compatability!

Yeah bummer

I have a mathematics degree and at the basic algebra level tells me that dividing by zero can't be done. Yet, mathematics also says that zero devided by zero can also be undefined.

0 ????

  1. Any number divided by zero is zero.

Any number divided by zero is infinity.

Thou shalt not divide by zero! If I remember correctly though, if you use limits, and zero not being zero, but rather some tiny number approaching zero, you will get an area under the curve that's not quite touching zero coordinate line, and becomes an infintely large number. Maths geeks, please correct me if I am wrong!

An error.

Define what you mean by 5?

0
  • 5 ÷ 1 = 5
  • 5 ÷ . 1 = 50
  • 5 ÷ . 01 = 500
  • 5 ÷ . 001 = 5000
  • 5 ÷ . 0001 = 50000
  • 5 ÷ . 00001 = 50000

As the limit of this process goes to infinite the result goes to infinity. So, at -0 you get infinity. At exactly 0 you get undefined since division is defined not to work there.

No one told me there would math questions on this site!

Whatever the answer if I agree with your comments I gain at least another 20 points to the next level.
